Conversations about Investing in Regenerative Agriculture
View this email in your browser

Hi <<First Name>>,

I hope you are all safe and are weathering well through these crazy times!

A small silver lining, I hear from every side of the world that the local food movements are booming (the ones which aren't dependent on restaurants), so if you always wanted to get involved, this is your moment!

Let's try to make sure it sticks after the dust settles.

We released some great interviews this month, diving deep into the institutional investor interest in regen food and ag and how to get them onboard. We also have a focus on the limits of agroforestry.

Two women came back on the show: Sallie Calhoun and Esther Park, probably the most experienced impact investors in the regen ag space, joined me and Benedikt Bösel for a conversation into Transition Finance!

Finally, we want to hear from you and help you!!

Invested over 150M in sustainable agroforestry
Interview with Oliver Hanke, Chief Project Officer of 12Tree

Topic: We discuss how 12Tree raised 200M from a German pension fund and has been investing 150M of it in the past three years in large scale sustainable agroforestry projects. We touch upon the fascinating world of aromatic cacao, organic coconuts, holistic thinking and reforestation.

My thoughts: We keep hearing again and again that the key for regenerative agriculture will be to get institutional investors onboard, but very often we forget to ask "how"? That's why I'm so grateful to Oliver to spend almost 1,5 hours with me to answer all my questions! I hope you enjoy it.

Regenerating 1M ha of land worldwide by 2030 through agroforestry
Interview with Felipe Villela, co-founder or reNature

Topic: We discussed reNature's work across the globe on crops like cacao, coffee, citrus fruits, white pepper, rubber, leather and cotton, together with companies like Veja and other large corporates. Join me for a discussion on advanced syntropic agroforestry and how to change the extractive commodity crops causing deforestation.

My thoughts: So much more is possible when you properly integrate trees into farming systems, I feel we are just at the beginning of the next agroforestry revolution. It's very exciting! Machineries have to be developed, we need new seeds, system designs, etc.

Two of the most experienced impact investors in regen ag and food are back!
Interview with Sally Calhoun, Esther Park and Benedikt Bösel!

Topic: How would Sally and Esther, founders of Cienega Capital and the #NoRegrets Initiative, approach the financing of the regenerative transition of Benedikt's farm? The second episode of the Transition Finance series with a guest (two actually!) is out. After 2 and 3 years we have Sally and Esther back on the show!

My thoughts: Really insightful conversation. In the middle of the coronavirus challenge and lockdown we managed to go deep into transition finance and regenerative agriculture! Not easy, but very very necessary.
