Musings from Susan

We need people who can dream of things that never were.” — John F. Kennedy

Spring is an ideal time to reflect on the direction we are taking in our lives and work. At Palmetto Grants Consulting, we believe that a strategic, coordinated approach starts with a thoughtful assessment of all aspects of a nonprofit’s business.

In order to be attractive to funders in this extremely competitive grant world, organizations must demonstrate that they are highly effective, properly governed, and well-positioned to implement programs that work. Setting aside time to take a snapshot of your programs, teams, and financials is integral to be able to plan for the future and succeed in any endeavor. The website Reflect and Learn is a comprehensive resource for learning about the different types of Organizational Assessments, and how they can add value to your organization.

In 2015, Palmetto Grants is introducing an Organizational Assessment Profile Tool to help nonprofits determine their strengths and weaknesses relating to grant readiness. The Assessment includes a detailed consultation with a grant professional, evaluation of documentation, and a review of grant history. Please contact us this month to schedule a time to begin the Assessment process.

Palmetto Grant Consulting is committed to helping our clients secure grant funding to support and grow their programs. The Organizational Assessment Tool is one step in the process. Staying engaged with the industry is another important element. Please share your thoughts with us on your experiences with the assessment process from your perspective – as nonprofit directors, board members, and for profit business owners with a stake in the charitable world. Please share your thoughts with us on Facebook and Twitter.

SC Association for Nonprofit Organizations

Founded in 1997, the South Carolina Association of Nonprofit Organizations, affectionately known as “SCANPO,” is the only statewide membership organization and network that brings together nonprofit leaders to strengthen the state’s entire nonprofit sector.

SCANPO is run by nonprofit leaders, for nonprofit leaders, and believes that well-managed and responsibly governed nonprofits result in stronger and healthier South Carolina communities. Their logo – hands firmly shaking across the state – reflects SCANPO’s core value of collaboration and their bold vision for a vital and effective nonprofit sector.

Palmetto will be attending this year’s Nonprofit Summit in Isle of Palms, SC. We hope to see you there!
