ICE HOTEL vs. SAHARA DESERT

4 night Winter Adventures with 2 Different Twists
Ice Hotel & Sahara Desert
Winter is coming.
Will you choose snow and ice at Romania's Ice Hotel
or sun and sand in Morocco's Sahara Desert?

As the nights draw in, Jack Frost threatens to take up permanent residence and a long winter looms, you'll no doubt be pondering your next getaway. But what and where will it be? We've got two very unique, and very different adventures for you.

You might want to embrace the winter and pick The Ice Hotel Experience among Transylvania's snow-dusted mountains where cobblestone towns nestle between frosty castles, and an ice hotel stands at over 2,000m above sea level waiting to be explored. Or perhaps the warmth of Morocco beckons more fervently with its vibrant souk-strewn cities, sun-drenched kasbahs, and sultry desert on The Sahara Desert Experience?

Can't decide? Here are some comparisons...
... or if you really can't choose, why not book both?

THE LOCATIONS
Transylvania Ice Hotel

SNOWY TRANSYLVANIA & ICE HOTEL

Discovering Transylvania during the winter feels a bit like stepping through the wardrobe into Narnia. Think medieval cobblestone towns, miles of snow-covered countryside, and a magical hotel made of ice nestled between the frosty peaks of the Fagaras Mountains.

You can only reach the Ice Hotel via a cable car ride up through the snow-shrouded mountains. At the top, there's a winter wonderland to explore including Ice Church, Winter Park, Bar, Restaurant and Igloos!

Marrakech & Sahara Desert

MARRAKECH & SAHARA DESERT

If the combination of spellbinding Marrakech with its trinket-filled souks and buzzing Djeema el-Fnaa square, and the vast Sahara Desert with its endless golden sand dunes and dazzling stars doesn't wow you then we fear nothing will! Plenty of sunshine and spectacular scenery are thrown in for good measure too.

Warm up for your journey into the heart of the desert with some haggling for rainbow scarves or pointy-toed Babouche slippers in Marrakech's maze of souks followed by some fragrant Moroccan mint tea

THE ACCOMMODATION
Igloos

SNOW SUITES & IGLOOS

Re-designed every year, each and every single room in the Ice Hotel is unique complete with snow sculptures, mood lighting, and ice beds topped with insulating sheepskin and furs. You can even book yourself into your very own igloo for the night! The only tricky part is choosing which room to sleep in.
Our top tip for a cosy night's sleep? A nightcap before bedtime. Just don't drink too much or you'll have to brave a midnight trip to the loo...

Bivouac Tents

A NIGHT UNDER CANVAS

Camping... but not as you know it. These traditional Bivouac Berber tents are so much more than your average poky tent! The sand floor is lined with colourful rugs, cotton drapes are swathed inside, and proper beds are cosied up with soft pillows and blankets. Sweet dreams!
The Sahara Desert Camp is nestled deep amongst the foothills of the world's largest desert and its sky-scraping sand dunes

THE SIGHTS
Winter Castles

SNOW-CLAD CASTLES

Transylvania's castles are fabulous at any time of year but during the winter they look as though they've wandered straight out of the pages of a fairytale with their snow-dusted turrets and frosty alpine backdrops. Enchanting Peles Castle and of course, Dracula's Castle in Bran are both on the trip menu.

Crunch through snow-dusted castle grounds buried in the heart of the frosty Transylvanian countryside before a well-deserved mug of hot chocolate or some Romanian market street-food

-------------------------------------- OR  ---------------------------------------
Kasbahs

SUN-BAKED KASBAHS

The journey down to the Sahara Desert is punctuated with dramatic mountain scenery, pockets of lush valleys, and clusters of ochre kasbahs and ancient fortresses. Explore the most famous Moroccan kasbah of all, the mud-brick Ait Benhaddou, and lord over the endless stony desert and palmeraie beneath you.

Think you've seen Ait Benhaddou before? You have. In major Hollywood blockbusters like Gladiator and Lawrence of Arabia!

THE FOOD
Ice Dinner

DINNER ON ICE

For a truly unique dining experience, pull up a (frozen) pew at your very own ice table in the Ice Hotel's main hall, and tuck into an unforgettable four-course dinner with multiple dishes served on plates of... you guessed it... ice! Frozen vaulted ceilings, glowing lights and cocktails at the Sub Zero Ice Bar complete the fairytale evening.
Warm up between courses with a brisk dance or a shot at the Sub Zero Ice Bar... served from a frozen glass, of course!

Desert Dining

SUPPER UNDER THE STARS

Nothing spells magic quite like a roaring campfire combined with a traditional Moroccan dinner full of exotic flavours and warm spices, a velvet-black sky, and a sea of twinkling stars! Kick back after your meal by the fire with a drink in hand and see if you can spot the Milky Way.
Eat (exotic tagines), drink (mint tea), and watch the Sahara stars sparkle. There's nothing quite like it.

THE ACTIVITIES
Snowmobiling

SNOWMOBILE RACING

Race a friend around the mountain basin or hop on the back with a partner and feel the icy wind in your hair! The Ice Hotel's Winter Park is the perfect playground for fun in the snow... and at over 2,000m above sea level it is probably one of the most remote too. This year, there's even a winter version of a banana boat ride along the ice!
If snowmobiling isn't your thing there's tubing, snow rafting, ice skating, or just a good old-fashioned snowball fight!

-------------------------------------- OR  ---------------------------------------
Camel Rides

CAMEL RIDES

Trek to the crown of the towering sand dunes on the back of a trusty camel escorted by a local Bedouin, then perch yourself on an Aladdin-style carpet and watch the sunset slowly bathe the desert in a kaleidoscope of mellow colours - pinks, oranges, reds and purples - before the sky turns to inky-black. Then it's over to the stars to put on a twinkling show.

How to look effortless on the back of a camel? Place one hand on the back of the saddle and the other on the front... and don't resist the sway!
