CoTrain sponsor 'Apprenticeship Initiative' at Constructing Excellence Awards 2015

CoTrain is very pleased to sponsor this category at Constructing Excellence Awards 2015, for the first time; and one of their top achieving Apprentices will be presenting the award.

Craig Caplen is aged 18 and has been working as a Co-Train Apprentice Technician since June 2014. He had studied Engineering for three years at school and college before following the apprenticeship route where he is now training to become an assistant site manager. Craig is an excellent ambassador for Apprenticeships and is testament to the success of the Shared Scheme having spent the first five months of his training on a placement with Osborne, before being personally requested to join Morgan Sindall.
Craig said “Being an apprentice has taught me a huge amount about the workplace, particularly how to deal with colleagues, which can’t be learnt in college.  I also love how every day is different.”

About CoTrain
CoTrain, a shared apprenticeship scheme co-funded by CITB, makes it easier for contractors to employ apprentices.  Established in response to industry demand, this innovative collaboration shares a commitment to long-term employment and training enabling local companies to invest in developing local talent.
CoTrain recruits and employs candidates, then places them with a 'host' company for a minimum of 3 months and are either retained by the host and shared among projects, or perhaps moved to a new host altogether until the apprentice gains the required experience to qualify.
Contractors are provided with a risk free mechanism to meet local training obligations and gain from an injection of energy from talented young people when workload peaks.
