KCH welcomes new Executive Director

Dear friends,

I'm pleased to announce that the Kalamazoo Collective Housing Board of Directors has named Matt Lechel as the organization's second Executive Director. Matt currently serves as the Neighborhood Safety Initiative Coordinator at the Volunteer Center. He brings leadership, organizing, fundraising, and planning experience from Sean McCann's campaign for State Representative, the Girls Scouts Heart of Michigan, the People's Food Co-op, and many other organizations. Matt is a graduate of the School of Public Administration at WMU. His passion for social change, community development, and cooperative enterprise will inject energy into the next phase of KCH's growth.

After six years of grassroots organizing, fundraising, capacity building, and learning, we've accomplished so much with the help of hundreds of supporters. KCH is working on multiple exciting projects that will take shape this year and continue to increase our community impact. I thank all of you that have sustained the organization over the years and supported me personally.

While Matt steps up to take on day-to-day responsibilities of managing KCH, I will step back to serve as the Special Projects Director.

While serving as KCH's first Executive Director, I've watched our community grow and have seen increasing support for neighborhood initiatives and cooperative enterprise. Many individuals, families, and organizations are working hard to improve our neighborhood. Leaders from many sectors of our society are calling for creative new ways to improve our urban centers and core neighborhoods. And, KCH continues to engage residents in participatory decision-making around their housing. It has truly been a privilege to be part of this work.

With gratitude,

Michael Gregor
Outgoing Executive Director
