Dear Friend,

Preschool-age kids are full of curiosity and a desire to learn. They should not have to sit out their preschool years on a waiting list!

The Early Childhood Education and Assistance Program (ECEAP) is Washington's high-quality preschool program. It's good for kids, families, and schools!

But kids growing up right now across Washington who are ready to benefit from preschool are sitting out their preschool years on waiting lists for ECEAP! We can change that!

Urge your lawmakers to invest in ECEAP!

Today parents, kids and early childhood educators with the Washington State Association of Head Start and ECEAP are rallying at the Capitol in Olympia! Add strength to their voices with your action!

In 2017 we are calling on state lawmakers to expand access to ECEAP. Lawmakers should increase funding to both enroll more kids and to support and retain the high-quality, culturally-responsive teachers that kids need.

ECEAP is a proven investment. It serves kids in families with low-incomes, children experiencing homelessness or other family crises, and children with special needs. A recent study demonstrates that third-, fourth- and fifth-graders who had been enrolled in ECEAP do better academically than peers who hadn’t had the same opportunity. That's all the more reason why the program should be available to all eligible kids whose families want to enroll. But kids are stuck on waiting lists.

Washington has some of the highest child-care costs (including preschool) in the nation. That means some kids, disproportionately kids in low-income families and children of color, miss out on early experiences in preschool that can help them have a great childhood and thrive in school and life. We all have a stake in making sure that ALL our kids get a great start.

Tell Washington lawmakers to invest in ECEAP and give kids a great childhood!

Thank you for speaking up for kids.

Sincerely,

Jon

When high-quality preschool is out of reach for Washington families, our lawmakers need to invest in kids! Take action.
