INVEST IN EDUCATORS, INVEST IN KIDS
Did you know that Washington's early childhood educators are paid less than pet groomers? Relationships between our children and their teachers are critical to early learning, yet poor compensation forces many skilled educators to leave the field, breaking the important bonds they've formed with young learners.

To give our kids the best start, we need to invest in the professionals who care for and educate them. The Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF) just released a report which proposes a plan to raise salaries, incentivize professional development, and maintain the diversity of the early childhood education workforce. While people of color make up slightly more than 17% of the total state workforce, nearly 36% of the early learning workforce is comprised of people of color.

Just as construction workers need scaffolding to build a structure, educators need various kinds of support to keep our kids learning. They need a livable wage and a practical way to advance their skills. We're urging lawmakers to fund DCYF's plan in next year's budget and keep our children's teachers in their classrooms!
