Luncheon ~ October 18 ~ at the Marott
The topic at our next luncheon is End of Life/Palliative Care Issues.  Our  speaker, Dr. Mary Baker, is currently a Pulmonary/Critical Care fellow at IU School of Medicine.  Originally from Lexington, KY, Dr. Baker came to Indiana to complete her internal medicine residency training at IU School of Medicine.  After finishing her training, she worked as a hospitalist for IU Health Methodist.  She has been recognized by her peers for excellence in teaching and in medical practice four times.

Passionate about the current state of health care and determined to change the way things are currently done, Dr. Baker has been involved with the Indiana State Medical Association (ISMA) for the last five years, first as the resident trustee on the ISMA Board, and later as the Young Physician alternate trustee.

Aside from practicing medicine and trying to change the world, Dr. Baker is a faithful student of medical ethics and a mom to two.  She loves and learns daily from her family, and is grateful for the pieces that shape her life.

Cost is $25 per person for members; $30 for non-members.  Register online.

Please consider bringing a guest – this is the last luncheon where you can earn tickets for the 2012 Bring-A-Guest contest. For each guest you bring, you earn a ticket in a raffle for a spa package.  If the guest becomes a member, you earn another 2 tickets!  At the Awards celebration in January, we will draw the winning ticket.

Update on the EWHC Lynne O’Day Scholarship
In 2011, EWHC established, in partnership with Marian University, a scholarship to honor the memory of Lynne O’Day.  Lynne was an active supporter, fundraiser, and board member of EWHC for many years.

The EWHC Lynne O’Day Scholarship Fund will be an endowed fund that will sustain itself into the future.  EWHC has committed to raising at least $25,000, at which point all monies raised will be matched dollar-for-dollar by an anonymous (and very generous!) donor through Marian University.  EWHC contributed the first $5,000 and we have already raised approximately $24,040 total.  We only have to raise another $960 to complete our pledge.  Click here to download a pledge card or you can donate online through Marian University.

Please consider helping to establish this important scholarship.  For more information, please visit our website.

EWHC Award Recipients in the News
At the January Awards Celebration lunch, we honored Connie Rufenbarger, Susan E. Clare, MD, PhD and Anna Maria Storniolo, MD, from the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Tissue Bank at the Indiana University Simon Cancer Center.  For an update on their amazing work and the success of the Indy’s Super Cure initiative held during the Super Bowl, please click here.

As always, if you have questions or concerns, please contact me.
Thanks
Susan
