Boiled lobster and mussels—typical fare for a New England summer—topped the menu at at the annual Ventura Valley Scottish Rite New England Summer Picnic held at the beautiful Camarillo Grove Park, in Camarillo, California. Over 250 guests attended the event, now in its 26th year, which benefits the Santa Barbara RiteCare Speech and Language Therapy Center.*

“Here you see Masons and non-Masons coming together to support our local RiteCare center, which is the crown jewel of the 14 RiteCare centers in California,” said Maurice Sourmany, 33°, personal representative (PR) for the Santa Barbara Valley.

Each year volunteers representing the region’s Masonic Lodges, Scottish Rite Valleys, and the youth of DeMolay, Order of Rainbow for Girls, and Job’s Daughters, gather to put on this event.

“It feels like a family reunion,” said Jerry Gonzales, 33°, PR for the Ventura Valley, which sponsors the event every year.

The Santa Barbara RiteCare Center is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that provides screenings, evaluations, and therapy services to pre-school through kindergarten age children. Contact the Center through their website www.sbspeech.com.

*VMAP Area 7 asks Valley to conduct “fundraising programs for Orient or Valley specific charities (i.e. scholarships, RiteCare Scottish Rite Childhood Language Program, etc.).”
