The Rod and Custom Illustrations of Stefan Marjoram

Stefan Marjoram’s photography from the inaugural Hot Rod Races at Pendine Sands originally appeared in TRJ #63.
Those of you paying attention to bylines in The Rodder’s Journal may recognize Stefan Marjoram’s name. He contributed photographs to our “Surf, Sand & Speed” article (TRJ #63), capturing hot rods blasting across the beaches at the first Amateur Hot Rod Races held on the United Kingdom’s Pendine Sands. As it turns out, Stefan is also an accomplished animator and illustrator, and his work was recently featured in the catalog for RM Sotheby’s Andrews Collection auction taking place this weekend in Fort Worth, Texas.
RM Sotheby’s auction catalog features Stefan’s illustrations of the cars being sold at the Andrews Collection auction this weekend.
Hemi-powered Deuce roadster
Last week we brought you a selection of hot rods and customs that will be crossing the block at that event, and it’s an impressive array for sure. But we thought you’d enjoy checking out Stefan’s artistic interpretations of those same cars. Just like his photography, his illustrations capture their spirit, from hard-launching dragsters to slinky, chopped customs.

It’s not really any wonder Stefan has a knack for this sort of thing. He grew up around automobiles, with one grandfather wrenching on racecars and another shooting events like the 1934 Auto Union Grand Prix at AVUS in Berlin. In addition to his work with the Vintage Hot Rod Association (who organizes the Pendine Sands event), Stefan has photographed at Goodwood and Le Mans. Most recently he’s been shooting photos and video for the Bloodhound SSC racing team, who is gunning for 1,000mph in their jet and rocket-powered land speed racer.

And for those of you planning to attend the auction, it kicked off today with a preview at Panther City Classic Auto in Fort Worth. There will be one more preview day tomorrow that is open to the public for a fee. Then Saturday morning Paul and Chris Andrews’ amazing collection of vintage autos hits the block beginning at 10am.
