Off to the Races!

You never know what you'll see charging down the track at the H.A.M.B. Drags. Here Bobby Hilton gets a little sideways in his Olds-powered "Little Honker" Comp Coupe at Mo-Kan Dragway.
This weekend, we’re heading to Asbury, Missouri, for the H.A.M.B. Drag Nationals. Hosted by our friends at The Jalopy Journal, this event brings together traditional quarter-mile machines from far and wide for a day full of racing. From Gassers and Altereds to roadsters and slingshots, the historic Mo-Kan Dragway will be packed on August 18th—and we’ll be in the thick of things covering all the action.

It’s been a minute since we’ve been at Mo-Kan, but we hear this year’s going to be one for the ages. In addition to the usual drag racing, bench racing, parking lot car show and related debauchery, there’s going to be a $500 purse for whoever runs the fastest in their street-driven, flathead-powered hot rod. We’ll be watching closely.

That’s not the only prize. On Saturday, we’re going to select one car for our Rodder’s Journal pick. The winner will get a one-year subscription to TRJ, a poster pack, a new “TRJ in the U.S.A.” T-shirt and, of course, bragging rights.

If you’re not able to make it to the Drags, make sure to tune in to our Instagram and Facebook pages for up-to-date coverage. And for those of you who are heading to the track, make sure to say hello. We can’t wait to see you there! To find out more about the H.A.M.B. Drags, click here.

Cheers!

P.S. Next weekend, we'll be back in California for the Goodguys West Coast Nationals in Pleasanton. Swing by our fully stocked booth for the latest Rodder's Journal merchandise!
Half a century after the Gasser Wars came to a close, high-riding Willys, Anglias and Austins are a familar sight at the H.A.M.B. Drags. Plenty of Stone, Woods & Cook influence on this Candy Blue '41 Willys.
Regardless of what he's driving, Bill Bierman of St. Louis, Missouri, always puts on a show. Here he catches some air in the "Suicide King," a 1961 Studebaker Golden Hawk with an altered wheelbase and a heavily set back big block Chevy.
Front engined dragsters, hot rod push-cars and big crowds all add to the H.A.M.B Drags excitement. When was the last time you saw a supercharged, short-wheelbase slingshot smoking 'em?
