Hard frost means worming time
If you haven't already, now is the time to worm before winter sets in (though is sure felt like winter was already here this week). At Oak Hill we use only non-chemical methods, though I encourage you to choose what best fits your herd management style. For us, fall is when we do a round of Dynamite Herbal Tonic to cleanse the body and take care of parasites before breeding season begins.  You can read more about parasites and our program here:

Now is also a good time to review your nutrition program
In my experience, all goats need a basic supplement program.  The soils are just too depleted to support fully-mineralized hay and grains.  At a bare minimum, your goats should have access to unbleached untreated loose (not block) salt, a good vitamin mineral free choice, and additional copper.  At Oak Hill, we use the Dynamite supplement line and I put out V/M Mix For Browsers, 1-1, 2-1 and Izmine.  I also put out Redmond loose salt.  My goats get their extra copper from the 1-1.  I have also sometimes used some copper sulfate dissolved in water and offered free choice.  Good nutrition is the foundation of good health, and copper in particular is critical for fending off parasites.  You can read more about goat nutrition on my blog or on the Facebook Holistic Goats & Goat Care group.  There are also some excellent books listed on my website.  Feel free to contact me with any questions about our supplement program.

Goat book in the works!
Yup, I'm writing a book.  It was originally intended to just cover muscle testing, reflex points and dowsing for goat health.  It has now morphed into an overview of my entire Oak Hill goat health program as well as the testing.  Stay tuned for spring release announcements!

Speaking of breeding...
Hopefully you have started increasing feed to "flush" your does before breeding. Have you read up on the tricks to favor doelings or bucklings?
