The NAIL-ing List: Neil Alexander's News & Happenings from the world of NAIL

Welcome to the September 2016 issue of

The NAILing List

Neil Alexander's Performances, Workshops and other bits...

September already? It feels like i just did the August newsletter 2 weeks ago. Wow that went fast...!

August was amazing, including studio work & gigs with Eric Hill (pictured above), The Hudson Valley Jazz Ensemble, Ras T, producer Angelo Quaglia, plus the usual suspects - Mr Gone & the Thunderhead Organ Trio.
Once again I am grateful for so many great opportunities.

September brings me back to the Dance Conservatory at SUNY Purchase where I've just started my 25th year. Plenty going on this month - shows include Peter Furlan's quartet at Maureen's Jazz Cellar in Nyack, Cloudburst,  the Thunderhead Organ Trio and much more. We also have the return of our Liberty Street House Concerts and the introduction of the Wired Wednesday Performance Series.
Here's what's up in September:

ELECTRO-MUSIC 2016

Greenville Retreat Center

Hugenot NY

TICKETS

Once again I'm pleased to be performing at the area's premiere electronic music event, the Electro-Music Festival in Greenkill NY. Now in its 12th year, this three day conference/music festival includes concerts, seminars, demonstrations, jam sessions, a swap meet, and a laptop battle. The scope is very broad, covering all aspects of electro-music: experimental electronic music, circuit bending, computer music, electro-jazz, modular synthesis, musique concrete, improvisation, algorithmic composition, multi-media, visual art and much more. The focus is always on participant involvement, sharing, community development, audience education, and great music. This year I'll be joined by my friend Chris Reiche [DJ Dee Flash] who's been working with me over at the Ableton HV user's group and during the Wired Wednesday Summer Intensive. While it's a 3 day festival, I'll only be there for Saturday, going on sometime after 11 pm! Tickets available Here.

Nita & I are very excited to bring you the newest program in the ongoing LIBERTY STREET HOUSE CONCERT series. This concert is part of "Wired Wednesdays", a series of workshops and performances exploring electronic music production.

The performers are “Onewayness", "dRachEmUsiK" & "ModulaterESP”,  3 established Electronic Music artists teamed up for an East Coast tour. This performance is part of our ongoing Liberty Street House Concert series here in the beautiful Hudson Valley. This event starts at 6 pm; the Music starts at 7pm. There are two 45 minute sets with a break between for chatting and eating. Suggested donation is $10-$20 per person  (going directly to the performers to support their tour). We are planning on streaming the performance live as well, over at www.concertwindow.com/spring100

THE PERFORMERS
onewayness
is Adam Holquist: a composer, improviser, and multi-instrumentalist from Erie, Pennsylvania. He uses guitars, pianos, analog and digital synthesis, spoken word and field recordings, and a variety of hardware and software tools to create atmospheric and textural music which draws influence from a variety of sources.

dRachEmUsiK
is the solo project of award winning electronic musician, sound designer and producer Charles Shriner. Charles’ music combines a plethora of nuanced techniques in order to create groovy and meditative soundscapes; giving structure to improvisation. This style manifests itself into an organic and natural composition of a free flowing design resulting in improvisations and structured pieces ranging from ambient to glitch-groove, noise to nujazz.

ModulatorESP
is Jez Creek, He creates improvised experimental soundscapes using synthesizers, sampling, sequencing, looping and processing to create strange worlds of sound somewhere between ‘70s space music, noise and dark ambient drone. He produces a fortnightly show at electro-music.com called Adventures In Sound.
