A New Parish Hall
for St. Matthias
St. Matthias, Summerton, held a service to break ground on their new Parish Hall, Sunday, November 14. The new building will provide the congregation with a nursery, age appropriate Sunday School rooms for children, youth and adults, a large meeting hall for parish meals and gatherings, a modern kitchen facility and new office spaces. Polly Sosnowski, ACSW, a licensed social worker with 35 years of professional experience working with children and families will lead a training class in SafeGuarding God's Children at St. Paul's, Summerville, Saturday, November 20 from 9:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. The workshop is offered to all, and is especially recommended for those working in nurseries or with children or youth groups. Writer and minister Dr. John MacArthur, noted for his radio program, Grace to You will be teaching at St. John’s Chapel on Tuesday and Wednesday, February 8 and 9, 7:00 p.m., with a book signing at St Michael's Church, Charleston, Wednesday, February 9, at 1:30 pm – 4:00 p.m. Seating is limited to Bishops, Pastors, Priests and Deacons for the teaching event. Please keep the family and friends of the Rev. Richard Dority in your prayers. Dority, who served as an Episcopal Priest from 1958-1987 died on Friday, November 12. The funeral service will be held at Ft. Johnson Baptist Church of James Island at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, November 16. Read the obituary.
Jason Hamshaw, youth minister at Prince George Winyah and his wife, Chelsea, daughter of Bishop and Allison Lawrence, welcomed their first child, Benjamin James Hamshaw on Wednesday, November 3. The baby weighed 8 lbs 7 oz. All are doing well. Benjamin is the Lawrence’s 10th grandchild.

Martha Horn was ordained to the Sacred Order of Deacons on Thursday, November 4 at 6 p.m. at Saint James, Charleston. Of the event, Horn said, "The Holy Spirit moved through the people of God and through the hands of the bishop in great power and we worshipped the Triune God in song and prayer. I was overwhelmed with the Lord's grace. It will be my great privilege to serve God's people as deacon in The Church of the Holy Trinity in Ridgeland with my husband Robert and in All Saints, Hampton with The Rev. Sally Putnum. I look forward to assisting these two priests, as we answer God's call on our lives."
