CANDRAKIRTI'S  ENTERING THE MIDDLE WAY
New Sunday Class Beginning on

SUNDAY, AUGUST 22, 2021 at 2:00pm
Lama Tsongkapha composed his commentary, "Illuminating the Intent  - An Exposition of Candrakirti's Entering the Middle Way" in 1418. This text integrates the central insight of Nagarjuna's thought - the rejection of any metaphysical notion of intrinsic existence - with the well-known Mahayana framework of the ten levels of the bodhisattva.

Text: "Illumnating the Intent - An Exposition of Candrakirti's Entering the Middle Way". Translated by Thupten Jinpa. The text can be purchased from Wisdom Publication and Amazon
Lama Tsong Kapha
Born in 1357, Lama Tsong Kapha wrote the commentary a year before his death in 1419.  After his death, Illuminating the Intent was adopted as a key textbook on Madhyamaka philosophy and that still remains unchanged today in monastic curriculums in the Geluk tradition.

Candrikirti authored Entering the Middle Way (Madhyamakavatara) in the seventh century as a supplement to Nagarjuna's Fundamental Verses of the Middle Way (Mulamadhyamaka-karikas). S0 in Illuminating the Intent, we have Tsongkapha
reading Candrikirti reading Nagarjuna, who was in turn reading teachings handed down from the Buddha.
