RECAP... District Governor visit, BeCollective, Rotary Skillshare, ASRC, Kingsman...phew!

Hi everyone,

It has been a crazy few weeks!  Here's a little of what's been going on...

On Tuesday 19th Sept, we were joined by District Governor Peter Frueh, his wife Anne and Assistant Governor Anne King. Peter and Anne aren't strangers to our club, so the atmosphere was quite relaxed. Peter spoke to our club about some of the challenges that Rotary and other service clubs have to face, and the importance of clubs to be flexible to members to be involved and stay involved.

As part of the Skillsbank pilot program, the Swinburne students ran two workshops about how to use the BeCollective platform.  The goal of this project is to test a volunteer platform that hopefully all Rotary clubs could use to advertise their projects and search for volunteers with a particular skill set.  The overall goal is to encourage a great inter-club collaboration between clubs.

Last week we held our very first 'Rotary Skillshare' meeting. This is a follow-on from 'Behind the Badge' - where club members do a little presentation about themselves to the club - the aim of Rotary Skillshare will be to take it a step further and allow club members to share their skills and knowledge. Kicking off the Skillshare in style was our Past President Jason Reynolds, who owns a financial advice business by day and I suspect is a caped crusader by night. Jason organised a session with an industry leading mortgage consultant, David Moloney, to educate members and guests about the property market and a few different options to consider and that are available. The meeting had a great turnout and the Q&A discussion was flowing throughout. I for one am excited for the next one!

On Wednesday a few of us dropped by the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre to drop off the bags and items that we collected last month.  Thank you to everyone who donated their used shopping bags, the ASRC is always in need of them and passes their thanks. Special call out to future-member Vanessa who was able to get a haul of bags free from Coles. And added thanks go to member Rana who organised a supermarket delivery of in-demand items to ASRC on behalf of the club.

Replacing this week's meeting, we had a ran a social night on Sunday to see Kingsman The Golden Circle at Kino Cinemas in Collins Place, with the minimum profit from tickets going to our club's birthing kit project.

Next Tuesday 10th we will be having a Projects Planning meeting, a chance to dedicate time to those ideas and projects that are happening right now.  Hope to see you there!

Cheers,

Jacinta Walker
