RECAP... Project planning

Hi everyone,

Last week we held a Projects Planning meeting, a chance to dedicate time to those ideas and projects that are happening right now.  Great to see the ideas flow through. A few that are coming up: club member Mark will be creating another team to raise money for Movember. If you are interested in joining the team, let us know.  Next on our Rotary Skillshare series is our artistic member Pippa, who is organising a Paint Workshop to raise funds for Australian Rotary Health's Lift the Lid for Mental Illness campaign on a Sunday afternoon in November - details to come.

One of the events that was discussed is next week's End Polio social event, with profit of course going towards Rotary's signature effort to eradicate polio, and a little extra thanks to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation that will meet each dollar we raise with two. Organised by our President-Elect extroadinaire Gabrielle, it will be held at The Cullen hotel and raffle prizes include a free overnight stay at an Art Series hotel (courtesy of our venue). Earlybird tickets are $20 until Friday noon, after that it goes to $25. So grab your tickets here now on Trybooking!

Tonight we will be joined by the team from Monash University's Health Initiative (MUHI), who will be talking out their Material Aid Program. This is an initiative which delivers medical equipment to under-resourced healthcare institutions in the developing world. If you're available tonight, come join us!

Finally, for those who are unaware, our Immediate Past President Mandi Wendt will be leaving our club to continue her development path within Rotary Club of Melbourne. During her 5 years in the club (in fact it is 5 years tomorrow!), Mandi has had 2 of the toughest roles (Secretary 13/14 and President 16/17) whilst making a major impact for Rotary at District level on committees for Vocational, PR & Communications and an ambassador for Foundation. I was lucky enough to serve as Mandi's president-elect and can attest to her advice and knowledge of Rotary being second to none. She will not be far away and I have no doubts that she will be back to visit soon enough. (her email to replace her club one is amanda@matter.net.au). Mandi, on behalf of the club and myself, I wish you all the best for the future (and, most importantly, in Rotary)!

Cheers,

Jacinta Walker

Club member Ashvin Sookaram has asked us to let you know about a friend's art exhibition that is coming up and we are happy to oblige:

"I have been helping my friend Susan Ross to craft her art exhibition recently. Since she does not have access to digital media, I am helping to spread the invitation for her.

Susan Ross is a kind, humble and amiable lady in her early 80’s. She has a dream to exhibit her sister’s husband, Ron Edwards, paintings.

Ron Edwards’ name in Australian folklore is legendary and some of his works are legacy that will endure. The exhibition will be held at the iconic Melbourne St Paul’s Cathedral, just opposite of Federation Square from the 16th to the 26th of October. I am sure that Susan Ross will be delighted to share her knowledge of Melbourne history with you also."
