Weston's greatest hits of 2015

Every holiday season, we take stock of what we've accomplished at Weston Consulting. 2015 was a year to celebrate, marking the resolution of some lengthy, large-scale projects as well as satisfying wins on smaller-scale sites. It wasn't easy choosing the greatest hits from many contenders, but we think you'll agree that the four achievements which follow demonstrate the kind of planning expertise you'd want on your team.

Weston sets new precedents

Kenaston Gardens, a significant new development by the Bayview subway featuring a 244 unit "C" shaped condominium with ground level retail, was contested at the Ontario Municipal Board. Our team led by Ryan Guetter not only prevailed but set a couple of new precedents. They include achieving highest density in the Secondary Plan for the area as well as a below-grade encroachment beneath a new public road. Construction is slated to begin in 2016.

OMB green lights Midhurst

Weston played a key role in obtaining the go-ahead from the Ontario Municipal Board for a large development area at Midhurst just north of Barrie, Ontario, helping accommodate area growth. The Weston team led by Ryan Guetter, engaged in lengthy negotiations and collaboration on complex issues including environmental sensitivities with many stakeholders. Weston’s skill at urban design was highlighted.

The new development will house about 15,000 people. Build-out will take anywhere from 12 to 20 years depending on market conditions.

This one's a Silver Star

We chose this site as an example of the kind of strong classic planning skills Weston brings to all of its sites. This new employment development, a single-storey commercial building and a six-storey office building on Silver Star Blvd. in Scarborough was approved at the Ontario Municipal Board thanks to Weston's diligence. Weston prepared and submitted a Site Plan Application and Minor Variance which was appealed at the OMB. Weston prepared and provided expert planning testimony at the hearing, leading to an ultimate approval.

Unique challenges in Oshawa

Weston's ability to deal with unique challenges is illustrated in the way  our team handled obtaining development approvals for this 20-acre Taunton-area site. Weston's Jane McFarlane supported by Courtney Heron-Monk and Kurt Franklin were involved in extensive consultation with an array of advisors on issues relating to the natural landscape as well as heritage features. Weston achieved rezoning and draft plan of subdivision approvals.
