Candidates -- We've Got 'Em!
We usually get a handful of candidates when we schedule candidate nights -- but we've invited 17 speakers, and so far, 11 have confirmed. That's a record number of candidates for us!
We just wanted to get out this list in case you were making plans to listen to your favorite one(s). The confirmed list of speakers, thus far, includes:
Rep. Mike Morrell for California Senate, 23rd district, to replace Bill Emmerson.
Libertarian Jeff Hewitt, candidate for 23rd California senate district to replace Bill Emmerson
Rep. Marc Steinorth, running for 40th California Assembly district to replace Mike Morrell
Gary Jeandron, candidate for California 42nd Assembly District, , seat now held by Brian Nestande.
Chad Mayes, candidate for California 42nd Assembly District, seat now held by Brian Nestande.
Brian Nestande, candidate for 36th Congressional District
Paul Chabot, Rep., candidate for 31st Congressional District seat to replace Gary Miller
Rep. John Valdivia, now San Bernardino City Councilman, candidate for 31st US Congressional District to replace Gary Miller.
Lesli Gooch, candidate for 31st US Congressional District to replace Gary Miller.
Jay Obernolte, candidate for 33rd Assembly District
Art Bishop, candidate for 33rd Assembly District
Scott Markovich, candidate for 33rd Assembly District
Rick Roelle, candidate for 33rd Assembly District
Rodney Lee Conover, for Congress, 8th District, Contender for Paul Cook’s seat
Rep. Paul Cook, running for another term, 8th Congressional District
Rep. Paul Hannosh for Congress, 8th District, Contender for Paul Cook’s seat.
If this is your first meeting, then remember to come to the Mill Creek Cattle Co., 1874 Mentone Blvd., Mentone. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. with a no-host dinner. The candidate meet and greet starts at 6 p.m. The two-hour meeting begins at 7 p.m. The meeting is free and open to the public.
We will have several announcements as well as asking for signatures for three petitions we're circulating:
We are pledging to collect at least 2,014 signatures for each petition. Please bring your completed petitions to our Thursday meeting!
- The first enshrines our Second Amendment rights in the California Constitution. It also prohibits punitive laws and taxes punishing gun ownership.
- The second requires voters to show photo ID when voting. This measure would significantly reduce voter fraud in California. Polling shows even Democrats support this ballot measure.
- The third would award California's 55 Electoral College votes by congressional district v. winner-take-all. That means presidential candidates would have to campaign in California instead of treating the Golden State as one big, fat ATM. Maine and Nebraska already award their Electoral College votes by congressional district.
And while we have your attention: Please vote for Mike Morrell in the special election on March 25. We are looking at a 9-15 percent turnout; that means, if we turn out our voters, Mike could win state Senate 23 outright on that day. (Special elections, unlike state and congressional elections, can be won outright with 50 percent plus 1 on Election Day.)
Our April 3 meeting will be awesome! Two members of the national Tea Party Patriots will fly from the East Coast to Southern California just to talk to our membership! They will be discussing a lot of the news and information originating from the national Tea Party Patriots conference in Washington, D.C., in late February. Part of their visit will be devoted to boosting area Tea Party Patriot chapters -- so if you're thinking of starting one, or you need some help growing your chapter, then this meeting is for you!
The national coordinators are paying their own way, so we can "repay" them by going to http://www.teapartypatriots.org/ and registering. By signing up, you will have access to members-only information as well as resources ranging from training seminars and videos to the ObamaCare toolkit and talking points. Please enroll and consider sending $25 -- the amount that gets you a membership card with your name so you can brag about how you are a "card-carrying member" of the Tea Party Patriots! (And imagine the joy on liberal faces when you flash that!)
Check out our new website!
And a big thanks to super-patriot Henry Vanderleest for his countless hours revamping our website! The new format includes more news among many other features. It also includes links to our newsletter was well as to our rapidly growing Twitter feed and Facebook page. Tell your friends!
See you Thursday night!
