Pete Aguilar -- celebrating too early?
So much news to cover since our last newsletter! We are so excited about our July 19 Citizen Ninja training that we've got attendence details in the right and left columns of this newsletter!
But first, we have to have some fun at the expense of Saul Alinsky wannabe Pete Aguilar -- a liberal who thinks the only way to solve federal overspending is to cut the military, something he was quoted in the media as saying during a Democrat primary debate. Radical Islamic terrorists are on the march in Iraq, and Pete wants to help them by slashing the budgets of the people who can keep us safe. Smart one Pete!
Pete's latest symptom of foot-in-mouth disease happened earlier this month when he smugly declared victory for finishing a distant second in the congressional district 31 race after the June 3 primary -- and he may have to eat his most premature and arrogant boast now that Lesli Gooch has asked for a recount!
That recount was launched June 18 after our own John Berry, also a California state coordinator for the Redlands Tea Party Patriots, formally requested a recount because 209 votes separates her third place position from the second place Aguilar.
As John was quoted in the local media: "I will be doing all Americans a favor if I can bump Pete Aguilar out of second place."
Could Pete Aguilar suck any worse as a candidate? (Short answer: "No.") He had lots of Democrat Party cash and endorsements -- as well a majority Democrat district by seven points -- and he just barely finishes second! And that came only after the Democrat Congressional Central Committee spent $100,000 on attacking Gooch before the primary. And destite those massive advantages -- ones that would thrust almost any other candidate to victory on Election Day -- Aguilar still may repeat his 2012 humiliation when he lost to two Republican candidates despite having no serious competition in a majority Democrat district. In politics, a candidate has to work really, really hard to be that bad.
We have a history with the San Bernardino County Registrar of Voters Michael Scarpello. He refused to let the Privacy for All Students group to examine the rejected signatures that would have helped to overturn that most immoral and indefensible co-ed bathroom law (you know, the law that lets boys and girls share bathrooms, sports teams and locker rooms if even for a moment they think they are transgender). The Redlands Tea Party Patriots collected 2,939 to overturn that law. Overall, in San Bernardino County, we were part of a coalition that collected 63,459 signatures, of which 13,174 were rejected for reason we were never allowed to discover. That was an unusually high 21 percent rejection rate.
Scarpello, after negotiating with Republicans about the cost of the recount, in the most sophomoric way, tried and failed to intimidate Berry into believing he had to personally pay for the recount as a means to have him withdraw his recall request. We heard Republican officials and attorneys have since ripped him a new set of lungs.
The recount is in the hands of the attorneys now. But if you want to help, please contribute to the Lesli Gooch recount fund at http://www.lesligooch.com/contribute/ The money goes toward the recount.
Patriots -- our own Richard and Joann Marshall need volunteers to help them with our market night booths. As you know, Richard had open-heart surgery and cannot set up and take down the overhead canopy. If you are willing to help the Marshalls, please call Joann at 909-478-4209.
Some bad news: We regret to inform you that the petition efforts requiring voters to show photo ID and California awarding its 55 Electoral College votes by party percentage instead of winner take all failed to get the required number of signatures for the November ballot.
This is a disappointment. But overall, we collected more than 3,500 signatures for both efforts. Even though we failed this round, it does not mean we won't qualify our petitions the next time. Every time we collect signatures, we are forging networks with other like-minded conservatives through the Inlande Empire and Southern California. In time, we will build a unified force large enough to counter liberal nuttiness like that most immoral and indefensible co-ed bathroom law. The libs plan even more insanity in Sacramento this year, so we must be ready to fight back with repeal efforts as well as assisting in initiatives for school vouchers, voter ID, etc.
Oh! Thanks to our good friends in We The People Rising for their tireless efforts to fight amnesty anywhere and at any time. Their latest victory involves getting Yucaipa-area Congressman Paul Cook on record as opposing any form of amnesty. We appreciate Congressman Cook's public position in the wake of establishment Republicans' attempts to sneak amnesty past us. His position could be critical in the near and distant future when establishment Republicans attempt another end-run on amnesty. Thank you Congressman Cook publicly taking a no-amnesty position.
We have had a very successful spring knocking on doors in support of our candidates and causes. We had 30 people join us for our joint walk with Tim Donnelly on May 31. We are still waiting for exact numbers from the campaigns we helped, but it's a safe estimate we have knocked on at least 2,500 doors since January.
Please stop by our booth in Sylvan Park on July 4!
And remember our yard sale is set for July 12-13, so contact Susie if you want to donate. Proceeds from the yard sale will be used to support the Unite IE radio show. Her email is in the right-side column.
We are proud to announce Citizen Ninja training at Mill Creek on July 19! This successful and popular training is designed to give conservatives the confidence and experience they need to engage and win in the public debate. The specifics and links to sign up are in the right-hand column. Last year, we invited the Leadership Institute to Mill Creek for conservative activist training; our goal was 40 activists and we got 68 -- including one that made a 550-mile drive from Ukiah just to take the training! We are just as excited about Citizen Ninja training this year as our Leadership Institute training last year.
Citizen Ninja training is Saturday, July 19, 8:30 am to 3:30 pm at Mill Creek. We will learn the six steps to be a Citizen Ninja: CONQUER fear, be ASSERTIVE, PEG the audience, ask a QUESTION, make a STATEMENT, and NEUTRALIZE the opponent. $35 includes materials, a continental breakfast, a great Mill Creek lunch and the friendship of our fellow conservative brothers and sisters.
