Possessor (2020) // Brandon Cronenberg

Marketing Officer: Kirsty

"Andrea Riseborough and Christopher Abbott give outstanding performances in this dystopian thriller from visionary director Brandon Cronenberg. Although horror fans will delight in the unsettling gory scenes on display, Possessor offers much more through its stylish and unique exploration of identity. Both horrifying and intriguing, it had me totally hooked!"

The Favourite (2018) // Yorgos Lanthimos

Edinburgh Cinema Club: Isobel

“If you’re expecting a history lesson you’re watching the wrong film! This tragicomedy shows the wild jealously and misplaced power of two ambitious women vying for Queen Anne’s affections.

The Favourite is an unscrupulous glimpse at intimate relationships affecting a nation."

Falling (2020) // Viggo Mortensen

Head of IT: Paul

"Viggo Mortensen’s first venture behind the camera is a portrayal of a man’s troubled relationship with his father. The film alternates between the father’s final years as his progressive dementia triggers his contentious nature, and recollections of his younger life. The film does an excellent job of pulling the viewer into their family drama, and as such can be difficult to watch at times."

Education Recommends

This week's Education recommends is an all time classic. The Red Balloon (U) follows a young boy who goes on a series of adventures through the streets of Paris with a red balloon. Considered one of the greatest children’s films of all time, it is a great title to introduce young people to classic cinema. They might realise that many contemporary films have taken inspiration from it!
