Crazy Rich Asians (2018) //  Jon M. Chu

Head Of Cinema Operations: Colin

"It's a bit like Meet The Parents, but in Asia. Typical fish out of water, glammed up to the max. Impeccably well put together, coolly designed and beautifully choreographed, just the right amount of saccharine sweetness, and not as utterly-empty headed as you'd think. Feels insightful and perspective shifting, but works as daft escapism too. Liked it much more than I thought I would."

Queen & Slim (2019) // Melina Matsoukas

Belmont Customer: Ali

Oscar®-nominated actor Daniel Kaluuya (Get Out) and Jodie Turner-Smith (The Neon Demon) star in Queen & Slim, the hotly-antipicated feature film directorial debut from Melina Matsoukas. On their way back from a forgettable first date, the couple are pulled over for a minor traffic infraction. The situation escalates, and the couple are forced to go on the run. Tackling the pain of systemic racism and police brutality towards African Americans in the States, Matsoukas crafts a powerful, modern love story.

Empire Records // Allan Moyle

Philip Marlowe Series // Raymond Chandler

Programme Officer: Raymah

"From Vera Caspary’s Laura, James M. Cain’s Double Indemnity and Dorothy B. Hughes’s In A Lonely Place - it is clear to see that the world of noir literature is full of spoils that have also left their mark on screen.

I would suggest no finer place to start your noir-reading journey that with that of Chandler’s Philip Marlow. Chandler brings characters to life with longing looks and amusing similes (which you may try to shoehorn into your own vernacular) like no other, and of course, at the centre of it all is a head-scratching mystery where our protagonist stumbles into danger and is repeatedly thrown off the trail until it all clicks into place.”
Catalan Film Festival

Let the Mediterranean vibes in! Scotland's Catalan Film Festival returns with an exciting showcase of feature, short and archive films made in Catalonia. The programme features films which have seen success at prestigious world festivals including Cannes, Berlinale, IFFR Rotterdam, New York Film Festival, Viennale and the Centre Pompidou’s Cinémas du Réel Festival.

Online from 19 Nov - 6 Dec!
Heavyweight // Podcast

Head Of Marketing: Kirsty

"It tells stories from people who would like to resolve something from their past. It's made me laugh, and cry uncontrollably. Gregor's story is a particular highlight."
