Possessor (2020) // Brandon Cronenberg

Marketing Officer: Kirsty

"Andrea Riseborough and Christopher Abbott give outstanding performances in this dystopian thriller from visionary director Brandon Cronenberg. Although horror fans will delight in the unsettling gory scenes on display, Possessor offers much more through its stylish and unique exploration of identity. Both horrifying and intriguing, it had me totally hooked!"

Les Misérables (2020) // Ladj Ly

Head of Cinema Operations: Colin

"France makes excellent social-political dramas and excellent crime thrillers. Les Miserables has a foot in each, set in Monfermeil, a location in Hugo's novel from which it borrows its name. It runs as a commentary on the deprived outskirts of Paris, much like films like The Class, Girlhood or 35 Shots Of Rum. But is gripping and tense, like a Mesrine or Rivals and blends toward an explosive and heart-wrenching ending. Bad decisions that appear as fait accompli. Three magnetic central performances. It is fantastic."

Education Recommends

This week's Education recommends is an all time classic. The Red Balloon (U) follows a young boy who goes on a series of adventures through the streets of Paris with a red balloon. Considered one of the greatest children’s films of all time it is a great title to introduce young people to classic cinema. They might realise that many contemporary films have taken inspiration from it!
