Uncle Frank (2020) // Alan Ball

Culture Aberdeen: Daniel

"From Alan Ball (Six Feet Under and American Beauty), the film explores themes of regret, loss and trauma to create a coming-of-age, queer, uplifting, and often funny, story."

Watch on Prime
The Truman Show (1998) // Peter Weir

Head of Cinema Operations: Colin

"Jim Carrey's first real attempt at getting slightly more serious in Peter Weir's masterful take on emerging trends in reality TV. It still stands up wonderfully. The story brilliant crafted and Carrey managed to squeeze every last drop of devotion and emotion from the viewer for his unlikely hero. Spoiler, but you'll burst when he finally escapes his life."

Watch on Netflix
8 Women (2002) // François Ozon

Programme Officer: Raymah

"A family of women gather at an isolated snowy cottage to celebrate Christmas alongside the patriarch, only for one of them to find him dead. Each of them have their motives, and so a cloud of suspicion hangs in the air as they look to see who amongst them may have committed the crime. Not only will 8 Women puzzle, befuddle and amuse but it is also a delight for the eyes with stunning set pieces and lavish costumes."

Inside Out (2015) // Pete Docter
