Impressive growth in international visitor arrivals to Vietnam in 2017


 
Vietnam tourism continued to enjoy significant growth with international visitor arrival figures for 2017 showing a surge of 30.5 percent compared to 2016. This is primarily boosted by remarkable increases in arrivals from China (48.6%) and Korea (ROK) (56.4%). Other key source markets, such as Chinese Taipei (21.5%), Malaysia (17.9%), Australia (15.5%), Thailand (13.0%) and USA (11.1%) also generated double-digit increases in arrivals traffic to Vietnam in 2017. Since 2014, Vietnam has seen an impressive average annual growth rate of 17.9 percent.

Quarterly Tourism Monitor 3Q2017 is now available



The Quarterly Tourism Monitor (QTM) provides a timely quantitative view of inbound travel by origin markets for all major destinations in the Asia Pacific by quarter for the calendar year 2017.

Key highlights of QTM 3Q2017:
  • International visitor arrivals (IVAs) to the 28 Asia Pacific destinations that have released third-quarter 2017 data show a combined inbound total of 88.7 million with a growth rate of 4.9 percent over the same period last year
  • In Northeast Asia, Japan outperformed its neighbours in terms of percentage growth with an impressive year-on-year growth of 18.8 percent while Korea (ROK) witnessed a significant decline of 34.8 percent in this period
  • In the Pacific region, Northern Marianas reported the strongest growth of 22.4 percent during 3Q2017, driven by an 18 percent increase in visitor arrivals from China. Fiji followed with an increase of 6.7 percent for the same period
