PATA has taken the initiative to help and support the bounce back campaign for Nepal’s Tourism Industry. PATA Vice Chairman Mr Andrew Jones, along Mr Bert van Walbeek, an experienced crisis management expert, recently visited Nepal to meet with travel and tourism industry stakeholders in the country. Both Mr Jones and Mr van Walbeek have helped countries in the past such as Philippines, Thailand, Bali, and Sri Lanka, cope with natural calamities and the after effects of war.

International Visitor Arrivals to 25 Asia Pacific destinations that have released first quarter 2015 data show a combined inbound total of more than 101 million. This is just 1.9% off the forecast volume for that period as predicted in the ‘PATA Asia Pacific Visitor Forecasts 2015-2019 – Volume II’ released today.

Key Insights from PATAmPOWER

IVAs from Northeast Asia to Southeast Asia Destinations Saw Mixed Directions During 1Q2015
 

In terms of both volume and percentage changes, Thailand reported a significant year-on-year visitor arrivals growth from Northeast Asia (+69.6%) with 1.26 million additional arrivals during 1Q2015. Indonesia (+11.9%) and Lao PDR (+39.6%) also saw strong year-on-year growth from the region. Meanwhile Malaysia and Vietnam recorded a decline of arrivals from Northeast Asia by -18.2% and -12.8% respectively during the period.

Nepal: Tourism Recovery Committee


Some heritage sites of Kathmandu valley to open for Tourists from June 15, 2015. The meeting of officials and the TRC including Joint Secretaries of the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Director General of the Department of Tourism, Immediate and past Director Generals of Department of Archaeology, Archeological experts, Presidents of the Tourism Organizations, Executive Committee members of Nepal Tourism Board and Administrative Chief of Nepal Tourism Board, headed by the Secretary of Tourism, Mr. Suresh Man Shrestha was held on 25 May 2015 at Nepal Tourism Board. Discussions were made to mark June 15, 2015 as the day to open the heritage sites to the tourists. Read more
