Key insights from PATAmPOWER

Continued rise in visitor arrivals from Southeast Asia to the Philippines in the first quarter of 2018


 
In the first quarter of 2018, the Philippine's inbound tourism continues to enjoy a significant increase in international visitor arrivals from Southeast Asia, showing a surge of 20 percent compared to 1Q2017. This was primarily boosted by impressive growth in arrivals from key source markets: China (+54.5%) and Hong Kong SAR (+41.9%). In addition, the destination also noticed a positive trend of arrival between 1Q2017 and 1Q2018 from other key source markets including Japan (+9%) and Korea (ROK) (+8.2%). Chinese Taipei defied the trend with a slight decrease of 7.7 percent for the same period.

Quarterly Tourism Monitor 1Q2018 is now available


 
The Quarterly Tourism Monitor (QTM) provides a timely quantitative view of inbound travel for all major destinations in Asia Pacific by quarter, during the calendar year 2018.

Key highlights of QTM 1Q2018:
  • International visitor arrivals (IVAs) to the 28 Asia Pacific destinations that have released first quarter 2018 data show a combined inbound total of 90.4 million with a growth rate of 11.2 percent over the same period last year.
  • Northeast Asia reported year-on-year growth of 8.5 percent, driven mainly by strong gains of IVAs to Japan (+16.2%) and Hong Kong SAR (+9.6%)
  • The Maldives and Sri Lanka led the growth in South Asia, with both destinations seeing an increase of 17 percent for the quarter. Nepal followed closely with a strong increase of 12.9 percent in the same period

PATA Canada Vancouver Capilano University Student Chapter's first year finishes with tremendous success


PATA Canada Vancouver Capilano University Student Chapter members organised several events throughout the year, including a sustainability-themed World Tourism Day with guest speaker Gwendal Castellan, Sustainable Destination Development Specialist for Tourism Vancouver. Through partnerships with Keep Vancouver Spectacular and Vancouver Aquarium, members joined the Shoreline Cleanup Program and removed over half a dozen bags of garbage from the grass and beach shorelines of Crab Park. Read more
