Flights from India to Southeast Asia to see solid growth in 2017


 
Scheduled inbound flights from India to Southeast Asia are expected to grow by 17 percent this year compared to 2016, driven primarily by increased traffic on routes to Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand. Singapore will continue to take the lead with 12,417 flights this year, accounting for a 35.7 percent share of total frequencies. Flights to Malaysia, Thailand and Myanmar are also predicted to see impressive growth of 15.6 percent, 16.8 percent and 27.4 percent respectively. Furthermore, new routes from India to Indonesia have opened with 851 flights operating this year.

Quarterly Tourism Monitor 3Q2017 is now available



The Quarterly Tourism Monitor (QTM) provides a timely quantitative view of inbound travel, by origin markets for all major destinations in Asia Pacific region by quarter, during calendar year 2017.

Key highlights of QTM 3Q2017:
  • International visitor arrivals (IVAs) to the 28 Asia Pacific destinations that have released third quarter 2017 data show a combined inbound total of 88.7 million with a growth rate of 4.9 percent over the same period last year
  • In Northeast Asia, Japan outperformed its neighbours in terms of percentage growth with an impressive year-on-year growth of 18.8 percent while Korea (ROK) witnessed a significant decline of 34.8 percent in this period
  • In the Pacific region, Northern Marianas reported the strongest growth of 22.4 percent during 3Q2017, driven by an 18 percent increase in visitor arrivals from China. Fiji followed with an increase of 6.7 percent for the same period

The first country in the world to ask visitors to sign a declaration in passports to protect its environment and culture for next generation. The Republic of Palau in the Western Pacific has today launched the Palau Pledge, a world-first eco-initiative that asks all inbound visitors to make a compulsory promise, directly to the children of Palau, to preserve their home before they can enter the country.
