Asia Pacific Foreign Arrivals
Count to Reach 547 Million
in 2015

Asia Pacific destinations stand to welcome 33 million more foreign arrivals in 2015 over those of 2014, lifting the expected total inbound volume to around 547 million by the end of the year. This is according to Volume I of the annual PATA Asia Pacific Visitor Forecasts 2015-19, released yesterday by the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA).

From April 23-26, the PATA will hold the PATA Annual Summit 2015 in Leshan, Sichuan, China. More than 300 international and local delegates are expected to be in attendance, including representatives from the national tourism bureaus of Malaysia, Palau, Guam, Solomon Islands and others, as well as representatives from The Boeing Company, TripAdvisor, and STR Global.

Chuck Yim Gee, the former longtime dean of the University of Hawai'i at Mānoa School of Travel  Industry Management, is now a member of a very small and distinguished group—the Pacific Asia Travel Association Gallery of Legends.

The gallery is on display in the central breezeway of the Honolulu International Airport. Gee joins other pioneers and visionaries including the founder of Pan Am Juan Trippe, Conrad Hilton of Hilton resorts, novelist James Michener and Walt Disney. Read More.

Strong Growth Expected for Scheduled Air Seat Capacity from Europe to Northeast Asia in 2015


Scheduled air seat capacity from Europe to Northeast Asia is expected to reach 17.32 million in 2015, with a strong year-on-year growth of 11.4% or some 1.79 million additional seats over 2014. Meanwhile Southeast Asia and South Asia are both expected to see minimal growth from Europe in 2015 with inbound seat capacity of 8.55 million and 5.93 million respectively.

Updates from PATA Chiang Rai Chapter after Their Recent Meeting

The first networking event will be held on 21 May, 2015 from 18:00 to 20:00 at Wine Casa, the Legend Resort & Spa. The Legend will provide an attractive costing for the first event based on cocktail snacks and soft drinks. Other beverages will be charged separately.

PATA New York Chapter

Pacific Asia Travel Association NY Chapter recently had its first trade show attended by over 100 NY PATA members. Attendees had traveled from CA, FL, DC, PA, NJ, CT. and the NY area for the March 19th event held at Club 101.

QantasLink Takes Off to Whyalla

QantasLink today celebrated its inaugural flight between Whyalla and Adelaide, providing customers with more travel options as part of its growth strategy in South Australia. QantasLink now offers a double-daily service on its 50-seat Q300 aircraft, providing 1300 seats a week – more than 65,000 seats a year.
 
Speaking at the launch event in Whyalla, QantasLink Chief Executive Officer John Gissing said the new route was a clear indication of the airline’s confidence in South Australia’s regional business and leisure tourism market.
