ATRTCM 2016: European Buyers are Heading for Chiang Rai


There is an impressive cross-section of Buyers attending the PATA Adventure Travel and Responsible Tourism Conference & Mart. They represent adventure and ecotourism outbound tour operators and agents in influential tourism source markets such as Australia, Canada and the United Kingdom. We have also received registrations from genuine, pre-qualified Buyers in Finland, France, Israel, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Monaco, Peru, Poland, Russia, South Africa, Ukraine and the USA. To date, 59 percent of applications come from Buyers in Europe. Other notable figures: Asia (14%), Australia (11%) and North America (11%).

PAS 2016: FestPac

Following PAS 2016, Guam will host the Festival of the Pacific Arts (FestPac), a region-wide festival celebrating the various arts and cultures of the Pacific. Also known as the “Olympics of Pacific Arts”, FestPac is held every four years since 1972, and brings together artists and cultural practitioners from around the Pacific region for two weeks of festivity.

Northeast Asia saw 4.6 per cent growth driven by China and Japan in Oct 2015.

In terms of volume increase, China and Japan led the region with year-on-year visitor arrivals increases of 496,500 and 557,595 respectively. Although with smaller volume base increases, Chinese Taipei and Korea (ROK) also recorded solid year-on-year growth in October of 9.5% and 5.1% respectively. Arrivals to Korea (ROK) recovered in October 2015 after four consecutive months of setbacks. The SARs of Hong Kong and Macau reported no measurable growth in October 2015.

PATA Nordic Chapters Meeting in Helsinki on 20 November 2015


PATA Finland Chapter’s Executive Committee had an exeptional pleasure to invite other Nordic Chapters´ Executive Committee Members to a face-to-face meeting in Helsinki recently.

Santa’s courier was at the airport to meet Anya and Cristina from Norway and Fred, Haakan and Robert from Sweden to the venue, where they first got Santa’s greetings with woollen socks. The atmosphere was set- we wished to have a relaxed, cosy and inspiring meeting which we did, until the wee hours.

Lanith: SDGs Spark Debate among Lao Tourism Stakeholders
 
 
“Laos has the opportunity to become the first country to reset its travel and tourism agenda in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs),” Imtiaz Muqbil, Executive Editor of Travel Impact Newswire, told the 17th Lanith Symposium.

Bangkok-based Mr. Muqbil keynoted the event, “SDGs and Tourism…Stimulating the Conversation,” held on 4 December 2015, at Lanith’s recently-opened tourism and hospitality “Center of Excellence” in Vientiane.

Luxembourg Development Cooperation (LuxDev) funded the construction of Lanith’s new fully-equipped school, with Luxembourg’s Charge d’affaires for Laos and Vietnam, Claude Jentgen, opening the event.
