PATA joins World Tourism Day 2016 celebrations

 

Official celebrations of the World Tourism Day began Tuesday in Bangkok addressing conducive travel conditions for people with mobility issues, presided by Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha and joined by PATA CEO Mario Hardy, Thailand's Minister of Tourism and Sports, WTTC, and UNWTO.

Oceania sees strong arrival growth from South Asia during 2Q2016
 
Although visitors from South Asia markets represent only four percent of total arrivals to Oceania, this source region is demonstrating impressive growth in 2016. During 2Q2016, arrivals from South Asia to Oceania grew by 18.1 percent compared to the same period last year. India, the largest origin market in this region, is showing 15.9 percent year-on-year growth in visitor numbers to Oceania for 2Q2016.

UNWTO calls for support to crisis-hit countries


UNWTO Secretary-General Taleb Rifai called for increased cooperation between tourism source markets and destinations that have been affected by crises. Addressing the 20th Summit of the Federal Association of the German Tourism Industry (BTW) on 26 September in Berlin, Germany on the topic of ‘Safe, Secure and Seamless Travel’, Rifai said: “real crises are often magnified or distorted by crises of perception. We need to enhance our support to countries affected by crises as they recover and help them increase their resilience. Supporting these countries will benefit the whole tourism sector and the whole of society.” Read More.


MGTO actively prepares for 1st October Golden Week


Spanning a whole week from 1st to 7th October, the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) has adopted a range of measures to actively prepare for the peak period as follows: sending out reminders and mobile text messages to industry partners and visitors respectively, sharing interdepartmental information, more scrupulous inspections, food guide publication, stationing manpower at various tourist spots to provide tourism information and guidance, etc. Read More.
