Northeast Asia Recorded Slight Visitor Arrivals Growth of 1.2 Percent Year-on-Year in 3Q2015 Despite Strong Growth of Japan

Japan outperformed other markets in the region in 3Q2015 with an impressive year-on-year growth in visitor arrivals of 53.7 percent. China and Chinese Taipei saw solid, if unspectacular, visitor arrivals growth of 3.5 percent and 5.5 percent respectively for the same period. However, the SARs of Hong Kong and Macau experienced setbacks in the third quarter resulting mainly from a fall in visitor arrivals from the mainland. Korea (ROK) witnessed a significant reduction in arrivals as a result of the MERS outbreak in May and July 2015.
