New Zealand and China continued to dominate Australia’s inbound market


 
Although New Zealand has remained the number one source market for visitor arrivals to Australia, China recently overtook the top spot during the first quarter of 2018, boosted by a year-on-year 11.1% increase in visitor arrival traffic. With this pace of growth, China is anticipated to become the top source market by the end of the year. Meanwhile, Hong Kong SAR and India topped the growth chart for the quarter, grabbing a double-digit growth of 38.4 percent and 22.4 percent respectively.

Quarterly Tourism Monitor 1Q2018 is now available


 
The Quarterly Tourism Monitor (QTM) provides a timely quantitative view of inbound travel for all major destinations in Asia Pacific by quarter, during calendar year 2018.
 
Key highlights of QTM 1Q2018:
  • International visitor arrivals (IVAs) to the 28 Asia Pacific destinations that have released first quarter 2018 data show a combined inbound total of 90.4 million with a growth rate of 11.2 percent over the same period last year
  • Northeast Asia reported year-on-year growth of 8.5 percent, driven mainly by strong gains of IVAs to Japan (+16.2%) and Hong Kong SAR (+9.6%)
  • The Maldives and Sri Lanka led the growth in South Asia, with both destinations seeing an increase of 17 percent for the quarter. Nepal followed closely with a strong increase of 12.9 percent in the same period
