The PATA New Tourism Frontiers Forum 2016 (NTFF2016) in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh attracted 242 delegates from 17 countries. The event, hosted by the Bangladesh Tourism Board under the supervision of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism, the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, brought together delegates from the public and private sectors to share inspiring and insightful discussions on some of the major issues in marketing and managing tourism growth for an unexplored destination.

Singapore is reporting an 11.2 percent year-on-year growth in arrivals for 2Q2016. Meanwhile, arrivals in Thailand grew by 8.23 percent for the same period. Malaysia’s recovery continued in 2Q2016 with a reported 4.64 percent arrivals growth compared to the same period last year.

TAT: Grand Palace to be closed for four days for royal ceremonies

The Bureau of the Royal Household has announced that Bangkok’s Grand Palace is closed today (December 1st) and tomorrow while Royal Merit Making ceremonies take place to mark the first 50 days since the passing of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

During this two-day period, the selling of tickets to allow tourists to visit the Grand Palace will be suspended during these temporary closures. In addition, there will be no access for tourists or mourners wishing to pay tribute to the Royal Remains. Read More.

WTTC and UNWTO urge UK government to lift air ban to Sharm el Sheikh


The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) and the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) call on the UK government to lift the current ban on UK-based airlines flying to Sharm el Sheikh.

In a letter to Prime Minister Theresa May, David Scowsill, President & CEO, WTTC, and Taleb Rifai, Secretary-General, UNWTO, stressed the importance of resuming operations to the Egyptian coastal resort as the current travel advisory is having devastating effects on the country’s economy and social stability. The ban has been in place since a Metrojet airline flying from Sharm el Sheikh to St Petersburg crashed in the Sinai Desert in October 2015.
