China set to top 2018 source market for inbound flights to Malaysia from Northeast Asia


 
An annual increase of 9.5 percent is forecast for scheduled inbound flights to Malaysia from Northeast Asia in 2018. Flights from China are set to lead the growth chart by taking up a higher share of total flights from 58.4 percent in 2017 to 59.6 percent in 2018, indicating an 11.9 percent annual increase. Meanwhile, Macao, China is expected to register the highest year-on-year growth of 64.8 percent this year, albeit off the smallest percentage share of total flights. Korea (ROK) (16.5%) and Japan (0.2%) are also likely to contribute toward growth this year, while flights from Hong Kong SAR (-3.8%) are predicted to decrease slightly.

Kick-Off 2018 by PATA New Zealand AUT Student Chapter


Every new journey begins with a single step – after launching the PATA New Zealand AUT Student Chapter in September 2017 and forming a game plan for the upcoming year(s), it was time to recruit new members and finally start the little PATA family here in New Zealand! With the beginning of Semester 1 in March 2018, the PATA New Zealand AUT Student Chapter started the recruitment campaign with a fantastic result – 60 students that were keen on becoming part of the PATA family!  Read more

During the Critical Hospitality Symposium Studies (CHSS) held at AUT from 02 to 04 July, several members of the PATA family at AUT had the chance to volunteer at the conference, socialise with international hospitality scholars and listen to their inspiring presentations and workshops! All volunteers agreed that it was a fantastic platform and opportunity for them to network and get hands-on experiences how an academic conference could look like – particularly interesting beating in mind the importance of critical studies towards a sustainable development of the tourism and hospitality industry!  Read more

PATA Life Member Neil Plimmer publishes memoir


PATA Life Member Neil Plimmer recently published his memoir, Compass Points. During his illustrious career with diplomatic postings in the US, Italy and Australia as well as CEO of New Zealand’s tourism agency for 11 years, Neil also served on the PATA Board of Directors for most of the 1980s and early 1990. Tourism Solomons: A “seismic shift” – new look ‘Solomon Is.’ branding catalyst for Solomon Islands’ tourism future 

 
In what represents a “seismic shift’ in direction for the Solomon Islands destination marketing, the Solomon Islands Visitors Bureau has unveiled its new look ‘Solomon Is.’ branding. A key component of the new branding sees the Solomon Islands Visitors Bureau being renamed ‘Tourism Solomons’ with the NTO’s familiar sun, island and sea logo replaced with a new logo featuring an iconic Solomon Islands’ dugout canoe. Sojern grows Asia-Pacific presence with expanded presence in Singapore


Sojern, travel’s marketing demand engine, announced an expanded presence and hiring plans in Singapore following the company’s rapid growth in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region. Sojern launched its first Singapore office in March 2015 and has since grown to more than 40 employees. In 2018, Sojern plans to expand its Singapore workforce by 25 percent to meet the growing demand of its rapidly expanding business. Read more
