Meeting tomorrow’s tourism leaders in Zhengzhou

 

Tourism and hospitality undergraduates from five colleges and universities in Zhengzhou, China attended a careers lecture given by PATA Chief of Staff Dale Lawrence as part of Careers@Hilton Live for Youth in Hospitality. The event was hosted by the Hilton Hotel, Zhengzhou and organised by the hotel’s Marketing Communications Manager Stefanie Sun, a former intern at PATA headquarters in Bangkok (pictured above left with Dale Lawrence). Academic institutions represented at the lecture included Zhengzhou Tourism College and the Henan Communications Vocational Technology College.

Robust growth of LCC flights from China to Asia destinations

Scheduled outbound low-cost flights from China to the Asia region are expected to grow at a faster rate (34%) than the full-service flights (8.7%) in 2016 compared to last year with Southeast Asia (45.6%) destination sub-region leading the growth pack, followed by Northeast Asia (19.3%). With such significant growth, Southeast Asia is expected to see an increasing share of the low-cost flights from 21.6 percent in 2015 to 25.7 percent in 2016. Northeast Asia is predicting a rise from 8.3 percent in 2015 to 9.2 percent in 2016.

New PATA Chairman joins PATA Philippines Chapter’s Business Assembly
 

The PATA Philippines Chapter’s Business Assembly (General Membership Meeting) took place a few days after the PATA Annual Summit in Guam. Newly-elected PATA Chairman Andrew Jones, who had earlier scheduled his post-Summit trip to Manila, readily accepted the Chapter’s invitation to grace the occasion and to give his inspirational message to the members, making it his first official function after his election. Read More.

Bangkok Airways launches new non-stop service to Da Nang, Vietnam
 

Bangkok Airways Public Company Limited is to operate four flights a week (Monday, Wednesday Friday and Saturday) to Da Nang with a 138-seater Airbus A319 aircraft.

Mr.Puttipong Prasarttong-Osoth, President of Bangkok Airways PCL said, “We consider Danang as one of our strategic flying hubs in the South-east Asia region. Da Nang is the third largest city and a major port in Vietnam. The city is situated close to UNESCO World heritage sites including the old town of Hoi An and the imperial capital of Hue, making Da Nang a popular vacationing spot for tourists looking to explore the attractions of central Vietnam.”

Former TAT Governor Mrs Phornsiri Manoharn conferred PATA Life Membership Award
 

Former Tourism Authority of Thailand Governor Mrs Phornsiri Manoharn has been conferred a Life Member of the Pacific Asia Travel Association in recognition of her contribution to PATA and the regional tourism industry.

Mrs. Phornsiri, who headed the TAT between 2007-2009, received the award during the PATA Annual Summit in Tumon, Guam. The summit in Guam, which is one of PATA’s founding members, commemorated PATA’s 65th Anniversary.

Solomon Islands Visitors Bureau – Pacific Games 2023 win a key driver for major tourism development
 

Solomon Islands Visitors Bureau CEO, Josefa ‘Jo’ Tuamoto has congratulated Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare and his government’s achievement in securing the Solomon Islands bid to host the 2023 Pacific Games.

Describing the win as 'the biggest ever windfall' for the destination’s tourism aspirations, Mr Tuamoto said the potential the Games offered from the perspective of new infrastructure, roads, sporting facilities and particularly tourism investment was massive.
