More low-cost airline seats to Southeast Asia from Asian markets in 2018


 
Low-cost carriers will increase seat capacity into Southeast Asia this year with an expected growth of 12.2 percent compared to 2017. This development will boost total scheduled low-cost inbound seats to reach 67.56 million by year-end. China and Korea (ROK) are likely to top the growth chart with double-digit increases in 2018, taking up higher shares of 14.75 percent and 8.54 percent respectively. Meanwhile, seats from Malaysia will still dominate with a 16.50% share of total low-cost seats, on the back of an expected 9.6 percent year-on-year increase compared to last year.

Following the earlier ATM report, the ATM Final Edition provides a more detailed view of travel movements during the calendar year 2017. It includes a number of additional measures of travel activity and profiles including the length of stay, expenditure and other useful metrics. Early indicators of travel flows for the calendar year 2018 (year-to-date) are also provided as an early warning mechanism for identifying major shifts and movements in key origin and destination markets.
