Vic Gov pledges $1.18M to research needs for NDIS

Community Services Minister Mary Wooldridge recently announced that the Victorian Coalition Government has committed $1.18 million to research on national disability reform, with a focus on what is required to establish a National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

“Our participation with other States and Territories in the National Research and Development Agenda will help take us another step closer to an NDIS,” Ms Wooldridge said.

The Victorian Government is playing a leading role in advocating for an NDIS to replace an existing funding and services system that the Productivity Commission described as “inequitable, underfunded, fragmented and inefficient”.

What are your views on the NDIS? Let us know - send us a message.

"No Vacancy" Gallery, Fed Square - opening 7pm, Thursday 15 December

Marley is an individual with an ASD and is 17 years old. He has been creating artwork for the last 7 years and this Thursday, his exhibition “Wild Love” will be opening at Fed Square.

Unable to speak coherently for years, Marley communicates powerfully with colour and mesmerising forms. This exhibition shows a range of his works chosen from 5000 digital artworks.

As Marley’s mum, Nancy says, “These children and adults have something in them that we all need. The light that Marley sheds will bring more awareness and compassion from the general community and all of our children will benefit from the recognition and understanding.”

This free exhibition opens on 15 December on Tues-Sat, 11am-5pm and Sun 12pm-5pm.

If you answered yes to all 3 questions, read on...

Housing Support & Resource Service Inc (HR&SS) is getting ready to launch an exciting new website and Facebook community aimed at helping young people with disabilities to have the information they need to live independently, called “My Amazing Life”.

Whether it is how to get around on public transport, how to grow an herb garden or how to change a light bulb – you’ll be able to find the answer on My Amazing Life. And for any question you can’t find the answer to, you’ll be able to ask someone else who has been in the same situation.

HR&SS is looking for people aged 16-24 with a disability to help create content – videos, podcasts, animations, graphics, help sheets – or to help administer the “My Amazing Life” Facebook page. They are offering training for all participants as well as a certificate of participation, and the best contributors will also receive a gift voucher valued at $50.

To get involved in this project, send your name and contact details to sbland@hrss.com.au
