COLUMBIA INSTITUTE TEAM MEMBERS ATTEND PARIS TALKS

We were in Paris at the #COP21 Climate Summit early this month (thanks to our Executive Director, Charley Beresford, for the photos) and it was indeed a historical global moment. We'll share our report with with you in the new year, but for now here's one of our favorite highlights!
Nearly 1,000 mayors from five continents back aggressive climate change policies in Paris. The mayors, including the City of Vancouver’s Gregor Robertson, pledged to support such long-term climate goals as a transition to 100% renewable energy in their communities or an 80% reduction in greenhouse gases by 2050.  Read more

"High Ground: Tools for Inspired Leaders" will be held Friday, April 1 and Saturday, April 2, at the Harrison Hot Springs Hotel & Resort. Stay tuned for regular updates in the new year on speakers and workshops. Until then, here's a glimpse into the program.
 
SPEAKER & SESSION SPOTLIGHT
Paul Born is the co-founder and president of the Tamarack Institute, a global leader on issues of place, collective impact, and community innovation. Born has been recognized by the United Nations for one of the top 40 projects in the world. He is also a 2013 senior fellow at Ashoka, the world’s largest network of social innovators. His most recent book is called Deepening Community.
Reconciliation in Action – The ongoing effects of colonization have placed indigenous people in Canada on the negative side of many social, health and economic indicators. This workshop, led by graduates of the Indigenous Community Planning program at SCARP, will provide information and space to explore, discuss, and develop actions to “do” reconciliation and decolonization in your community and school district.

At the end of November, we held our very first fundraising dinner with Partners in the Horn of Africa, an NGO pursuing community development work in Ethiopia. The evening was a smashing success with good food, amazing energy and a fun crowd! Take a look at photos from the event.
