New Vocations at Mereworth
Ground Breaking Ceremony

Wednesday, June 24, 2015 at 11 a.m.

Your presence is requested at the ground breaking ceremony and lunch celebrating New Vocations Racehorse Adoption Program’s expansion at the historic Mereworth Farm. The creation of this facility continues a 23-year legacy of rehabilitating, retraining and rehoming retired racehorses that has led to the placement of nearly 6,000 individuals. Offering two barns, indoor and outdoor arenas, and multiple paddocks and pastures, New Vocations at Mereworth Farm will make it possible to help even more horses in need of second careers.
Location: Follow signs from the corner of Leestown and Dolan Roads.  The ceremony will be held at the building site on the corner of Dolan and Bethel Roads and will conclude with a light lunch. For a map to the event, please click here.

The Need to Grow

Although New Vocations is currently accepting more retired racehorses each year than any other charity in the nation, there are still large numbers of retiring horses in need of an aftercare option. The program is operating at full capacity with a waiting list at all of its locations. The program receives daily inquiries from owners and trainers who wish to ensure their horses find a viable second career. Due to limited space and funding, not all horses can be accepted.

Mereworth Farm Offers a Solution

The late Susan Donaldson left her 1,200-acre Mereworth Farm in a foundation to be a retirement home for unwanted horses. With strong roots in the racing industry dating back to 1924, the Susan S. Donaldson Foundation is providing New Vocations with a free, long-term lease of 85 acres on Mereworth Farm to build a premier retraining and rehoming facility. Once complete, New Vocations, in combination with Mereworth Farm, will be the largest rehabilitation, retraining, rehoming and retirement facility in the nation.
