Oh, Military. Tall, dark and handsome with a goofball personality. He’s the resident puppy dog who wants to be in your lap, in your face, basically the center of your universe! Military loves pampering so much that he does not even bother to rise from his slumber when you are grooming to ride. He is content to let you work around him. He loves grooming and attention, so much so that if you are standing in front of him and not paying him the attention he feels he deserves, he will actually nip you to make sure you do! This is not the typical racehorse nip, it is truly an “ahem, I demand your full and undivided attention”. It is pretty funny but we do try to not let him get away with it. He is a showoff in the field and wants to be front and center in the action there too. He does not have any stable vices.

Military is a big horse full of flair with movement to match. He has a personality that would be best geared towards the excitement of jumpers or the challenge of dressage to command his attention. The hunters may be a bit too easy for him and he may get distracted. He is generally happy and eager to conquer any task. He has been started over small fences and is a quick learner. Military is best suited for confident intermediate riders or advanced riders.

CIRCUS TIGER - 7 yr old, 15.3hh gelding         Adoption Fee: $700 NOW $500

Email Facility Trainer About This Horse

Tiger is a kind mare that is jumping back into the work force again after just hanging out at her owner’s farm for the last year.  It is amazing how in 7 rides she went from being unsure of herself and just wanting to go to the gate, to the horse you see in the video.  A testament to what a good mind and kind, trusting heart she has.  She is always watching everyone and is very happy when someone comes in her stall to groom her and pay attention to her.  Tiger is light in the bridle with forward movement and a nice rhythm.  She is very quick to pick up on concepts if you quietly explain them to her and then allow her to figure it out.  She moves and feels like a Hunter, but she is suitable for any discipline.

Unlike most OTTBs who have to learn to work in an arena with other horses, and especially with another horse coming straight at them, it is not issue for this mare.  She actually prefers the comfort of working with another horse in the ring with her.  Tiger is still having separation anxiety from her half-sister who was her pasture mate for the last year, but she goes right to work when her sister is in the ring with her.  Separation in stages is what we have been doing to keep the stress level down.  Tiger now goes out to turnout with another mare, who she gets along with very well, but once in the barn she still watches for her sister until Royal is back in her stall as well.  Tiger doesn’t call for her new pasture buddy even though they graze nose to nose in the pasture together.

Her sire, Hold That Tiger, sold for 1.1 million as a weanling and was the European 2 Year Old Champion.  His sire, Storm Cat, stood at stud for $500,000 at one time, was a 2 time Leading Sire in North America and a notable broodmare sire.  Caveat won the ’83 Belmont and earned $542,000 in his 21 starts.  Her dam’s sire, Melodisk, was a hard working guy with 55 starts, earning $140,000.  His sire was the Hall Of Famer Alydar.  Mongo was the ’63 Champion Grass Horse, had 46 starts with a record of 22-10-4 and earned $820,000.

ROYAL CIRCUS - 9 yr old, 15.3 1/2hh gelding      Adoption Fee: $700 NOW $500

Email Facility Trainer About This Horse

Royal is a nice solidly built mare who is back to work after just hanging out at her owner’s farm for the last 17 months.  In just 3 rides she went right to work like she had being doing this all her life and the video is of her 8th ride.  Royal is light in the bridle, comfortable to ride and has a trot that shows some suspension to her movement.  Her canter needs a bit of work still, but she already carries herself in a light frame.  Being an 8 year old, she grasps concepts quickly and has a good work ethic when working in the arena with another horse.  She prefers to work with others and we have been slowly introducing her to working alone without her half-sister by her side. Royal is still having separation anxiety from her half-sister who was her pasture mate for the last year.  Separation in stages is what we have been doing to keep the stress level down.  Royal now goes out to turnout with another mare, who she could doesn’t even acknowledge, but once in the barn she still watches for her sister until Tiger is back in her stall as well.

Royal would make a nice Dressage prospect due to her movement and body type, but she has no known injuries making her suitable for any discipline.  She is very kind with just a bit of arrogance, loves to be groomed and likes attention, but she will require a slightly more advanced rider because she is a TB mare which means she comes with the need to voice her opinion on occasion.  The quieter the rider the better she learns, but the rider also has to be firm and consistent with her.

Royal’s sire, Royal Academy, placed in 6 of his 7 starts, won the ’90 Breeder’s Cup Mile and earned $759,000.  He has sired a Breeder’s Cup Mile winner, Hong Kong Horse of the Year and is the grandsire of Black Caviar.  His sire was an English Triple Crown winner Nijinsky II whose sire is the Hall of Fame Northern Dancer and whose dam is the ’62 Champion 3 Year Old Filly Flaming Page.  Crimson Saint won 7 of her 11 starts, earning $92,000 and her sire was Crimson Satan, the ’61 Champion 2 year Old Colt who had 58 starts and earned $796,000.  Royal’s dam’s sire, Melodisk, was a hard working guy with 55 starts, earning $140,000.  His sire was the Hall Of Famer Alydar.  Mongo was the ’63 Champion Grass Horse, had 46 starts with a record of 22-10-4 and earned $820,000.

XMAX - 3 yr old, 15.2hh gelding                  Adoption Fee: $700 NOW $500

Email Facility Trainer About This Horse

The 3 year old age is a great age where the horses are still little sponges and will soak up all information given to them.  Max fits the mold and has obviously been a good student while at the track.  In his very first ride here he went right to work, concentrating on his job with light contact, forward movement and balance, naturally carrying himself with a flat top line and in a light frame all by himself.  He looks like a little Hunter that has been doing this for a while, but he seems to have enough talent for any discipline.  While playing in the indoor the other day, he demonstrated tempi changes in ones with no effort on his part because he is naturally balanced and athletic.  Nothing so far has fazed him either under saddle or on the ground.  He seems to have good self confidence for such a young horse.  Just before he got his front shoes on he snapped off some of his toe, so he had a few ouchy steps in the video.

When talking to him he looks straight at you as if trying to understand what you are saying to him.  He is also the bright-eyed, curious observer of barn life and you will never find him at the back of his stall.  He always has his head out over his stall gate waiting for attention or something to happen, nodding his head in agreement when you talk to him.  He loves people and attention and would fit right into family life.  Max needs just light work for now, increasing his work load over the next several months and can begin jumping next year.

Max is kind to his 2 turn out buddies and they are the quiet group in the barn.  Since he is young, he follows the others around, but that might change as he gets older and gains confidence among his pasture mates.  He is too young to understand herd dynamics, so he cannot go out with mares.

X Max’s has a strong pedigree full of Stakes Placed and Multiple Graded Stake Winners.  His sire, Majestic Warrior, is a Graded Stakes winner, earning $239,000 and his dam is Stakes Placed as well.  A.P. Indy is a 2000 Hall of Fame inductee as well as Seattle Slew in 1981.  The MGSW are the million dollar earner Dream Supreme, Weekend Surprise, Seeking The Gold, Spring Round, Always A Classic, Dixieland Band and 1981 Canadian Horse of the Year, Deputy Minister.  Max is by the same sire as Iratinelexburance who was recently adopted from our program and he looks just like a smaller version of her.

STRAIGHT FAX - 7 yr old, 16.3hh gelding         Adoption Fee: $700 NOW $500

Email Facility Trainer About This Horse

Fax is one of those horses that will never jump headlong into anything. He is the quiet observer in the corner watching the world around him without getting involved. You will find him standing in his stall with his head out the window observing the outside world, but he’s not that interested in what’s going on inside the barn giving the impression of a solitary horse, but once you get to know him, it’s is quite the opposite. You have to prove that you are worthy of his trust, but when he does, he quickly will depend on you for protection and guidance and will be happy to have you be the leader if you are quiet and patient with him.  He very much reflects the riders mood. A quiet demeanor with him and a daily face rub and he is yours.  We feel he will do anything for his person if he trusts them.

Fax has comfortable gaits and is starting to work in a longer frame as he becomes more comfortable with his new life.  His build is suited more for Dressage, but he should be suitable for any discipline.  We have not taken him over anything yet because he needs to gain confidence with the flat work before introducing anything more.  Fax also loves to go exploring around the farm and wants to go up to everything that interests him to figure out what it is.  In his outdoor video, which will be up next week, he was fascinated with the lawn mower being loaded on the trailer in the driveway and had to stop to watch.   A walk down the driveway and through the puddles is a good way to end after working in the arena. In turn out Fax does best with a quieter gelding that won’t pick on him and he will graze along the fence row if there is a mare in the field next to him, always aware of where they are, but he never calls to them.  Due to that he will not be able to go out with mares because he will probably become very possessive.

As far as his pedigree goes, he has quite a mix of top performers and lackluster runners.  His sire was unraced and his dam was unplaced in 5 starts.  His sire’s dam earned $15,000 in 14 starts and his dam’s dam was unplaced in 3 starts.  On the up side, Gilded Time was the ’92 Champion 2 year old Colt by MGSW Timeless Moment.  Manila is in the Hall of Fame.  Dehere is the ’93 Champion 2 year old Colt and he is by the ’81 Horse of the Year Deputy Minister. Fax certainly out performed his parents and grand dams.
Straight Fax came to us through NYTHA’s Take The Lead Program and we greatly appreciate their support.
