New Vocations Racehorse Adoption Program
Founded in 1992, New Vocations has become the largest racehorse adoption program in the country and has facilities in: Ohio, Kentucky, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Tennessee. The program’s mission is to: rehab, retrain, and rehome retired racehorses. In 2012 the program took in over 400 Thoroughbreds and Standardbreds and has placed close to 5,000 retired racehorses since its inception. Working directly with owners and trainers who need aftercare for horses leaving the track, the program currently receives horses from more than 30 racetracks across the country. New Vocations has a sound adoption system that is proven to move a large number of horses in a relatively short period of time. The program focuses on adoption rather than retirement, believing that each horse deserves to have an individual home and purpose. www.newvocations.org
Retired Racehorse Retraining Project
The Retired Racehorse Training Project is an effort to increase demand for retired Thoroughbred racehorses as pleasure and sport horses through public events, clinics, training publications, videos and internet tools. Their mission is to facilitate the placement of retired Thoroughbred racehorses in second careers by educating the public about the history, distinctive characteristics, versatility of use, and appropriate care and training of the iconic American Thoroughbred. www.retiredracehorsetraining.org
