Churchill Charities Initiative, “Pony Up For Charity” Selects New Vocations to be Recipient of Proceeds.

The Churchill Downs Incorporated Foundation (“Churchill Charities”) announced today the continuation of the charitable initiative, “Pony Up For Charity” during the Fall Downs After Dark night racing event at Churchill Downs November 18th .  Customers may elect to ask their server to add or “Pony Up” a dollar or more to their food and beverage tab.  Customers who “Pony Up” will receive a commemorative sticker, “I PONIED UP FOR CHARITY” with the Churchill Charities black and red horse head logo.

New Vocations Racehorse Adoption Program has been named recipient of the proceeds from the evening’s “Pony Up For Charity”.  Proceeds will go to support New Vocations mission to rehab, retrain and re-home retired racehorses.  The program has successfully re-homed over 3,500 retired racehorses since opening its doors in 1992.  With locations in Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, Michigan, and Pennsylvania the program works directly with owners and trainers to provide an outlet for their retired racehorses. Horses in the program are rehabilitated, retrained for a new discipline and then adopted to individuals who can help them excel in a second career.

“We are honored to have Churchill Charities name us as a recipient”, shares Program Director Anna Ford. “This is a great way for everyone to pitch in a little, which could potentially add up to a sizable donation.  Right now there are so many horses in need of programs like ours, so every dollar counts.”

Churchill Downs admission gates will open at 4 p.m. EDT for Downs After Dark and entertainment will
be offered through midnight on Friday, November 18, with live racing at 6 p.m. General admission to Downs After Dark is $10.

The Churchill Downs Incorporated Foundation (“Churchill Charities”) is a 501 (c)(3) tax-exempt organization
founded by Churchill Downs Incorporated in 2001 to support charitable organizations that assist the horse racing and gaming industries, as well as non-profit organizations that promote public welfare, education and the arts. Crown shines like a copper penny.  She is a sweet mare who is nicely put together and is easy to get along with.  She has 3 comfortable gaits and in less than a week was already jumping cross rails. She is going to make someone an excellent all around horse. She would excel as a hunter/jumper, trail horse, 4-H project, fox hunter, or even an eventer. She will turn heads with her unique copper coat. Come take a look at this awesome mare! She is sound and ready for a new career.

Crown raced 30 times. Her last race was 6/17. She was retired due to the fact that she only earned $1400 this year and was no longer competitive. Crown is part of the PA HBPA New Vocations program. For more information call Sherry at: (717)202-7947 or email huntrjumpr22@hotmail.com

Medal Play
Available for Adoption

 Medal Play
10 year old, 16hh bay gelding
Located: Manchester, MI
Contact: regina@horseadoption.com

Medal Play is a 10 yr old bay pacing gelding who stands a stout 16 hands. Player raced 134 times and made $124,000 and last raced May of 2011. He is out of an Artsplace mare and sired by Northern Luck which just backs up his beautiful pacing gate he loves to do under saddle. Player has some freeze marks on his legs and especially on his left front ankle but they are cold and set and should not bother him with his future career.

Player loves to hold his head high with his ears forward ready to take the trail. He was walking over logs in just a few tries and walked past the hay elevator like it wasn’t even there. He is very tall and is large bodied so he can carry the husband or bigger/taller person with ease. Player has a big personality that goes along with his size. He just begs for attention when he is in the barn. He can get antsy in the cross ties while you are brushing him and putting the saddle on but with time and correction this should get better. He has a willing attitude which will help in his transition. This boy has the trail riders dream pace and with his long legs he will eat up a trail in no time.

Player is good to catch, clip, bathe, and load. He has been turned out with multiples and does great with all. Player is looking for someone to enjoy his days out on the trails with. Email regina@horseadoption.com to find out about adopting this great horse!
