This Christmas season, WinStar Farm has announced it will auction some of the farm's most historic racing memorabilia this Friday to benefit the New Vocations Racehorse Adoption Program. The auction is set to take place online at Ebay.com from 4pm on Thursday, Dec. 8th through Tuesday, Dec. 13th. All proceeds will go directly to New Vocations.
“The folks at New Vocations have one of the most important jobs in our industry in my opinion, and they do a tremendous job,” said Elliott Walden, President and CEO of WinStar Farm. “They have a great program that re-trains these tremendous athletes for their careers after racing, and then they place them with people who have been qualified through an extensive evaluation program, which includes a years worth of follow up, to ensure that these horses continue to be cared for to the standard that they deserve. It's our responsibility to the industry to support programs such as New Vocations, and WinStar is always honored to do it.”
In 1992 New Vocations first opened their barn doors to retired racehorses looking for new careers. Starting with a single farm in Dayton, Ohio the program has grown to have six facilities, which are located in Tennessee, Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, and Pennsylvania. Serving over 40 racetracks, New Vocations works directly with owners and trainers in need of an aftercare program for horses leaving the track. Currently the program adopts out more retired racehorses than any other program in the nation. The program has a sound adoption system in place that is proven to move a large number of horses in a rather short period of time. Their focus is on adoption verses retirement, believing that each horse deserves to have an individual home and purpose. View further information at www.horseadoption.com
