The recent KBB Show for the Kitchens bathrooms and bedrooms industry was a great success for us. On top of meeting so many valued customers we learnt a lot about market trends which will help us to provide the components you are looking for.
We concentrated on showing technical door solutions that will help to drive your sales forward through innovation in the bespoke furniture manufacturing sector.
lateral door systems and SLS-Elan
all proved popular with visiting designers and craftsmen and the MultiMo Flat performed it's usual show stopping trick. Passers-by were seen to pause and look quizzical as Thomas Bourdaire and Mike Rogers moved doors magically over each other - The MultiMo is a sliding door system where any door can slide in front of any other giving great flexibility and maximum 'Wow' factor.
Our visitors were predominantly independent joiners and furniture manufacturers working in the KBB sector. They were joined by a strong representation of architects and designers on the lookout for new ideas and concepts to offer their customers.
Sugatsune produces a huge range of hardware but it is known particularly for introducing soft-closing stays. Thomas Bourdaire noticed that whilst there are now many suppliers offering up-opening and lift assist stays, down opening stays are much harder to come by. Sugatsune offers damped drop down stays in the HDS, NSD and SDS product lines. Indeed the miniature SDS-100 TV media centre stay is proving very popular amongst designers housing the ubiquitous gadgets we fill our houses with these days. The SDS is perfect for small format doors that house DVD players, Sky boxes and the like and is unique in the market.
The LIN-X was appreciated as a solution for inside corners and kitchen islands, its space saving design gives designers more options for these tricky areas. Solutions for smaller doors, typically 300mm, were being sought out and news that the FAD-5 parallel opening door will soon be released to the European market was keenly received. The little sister of the FAD-20 is already established in Japan where space has always been an issue but now similar constraints are being felt in the European market.
Wardrobe sliding doors are another product well established in Japan which will soon be coming to Europe and several customers asked for details of the FD-30 system which will support 20-30kg doors on a compact 2cmx2cm track.
As is often the case many visitors were fascinated by the huge catalogue of traditional furniture fittings that Sugatsune supplies from Japan - products like the LSB-40 hinge opposite. "Once customers come to trust our technical door solutions they often fall in love with some of our simpler stuff too" states UK Sales Manager Mike Rogers.
You may be aware that during 2010 Sugatsune is celebrating being in business for 80 years. Starting out in a garage and delivering its hand-made handles by motorcycle, Sugatsune gained strength by producing western style furniture and fittings at a time of growing demand in it's domestic market. Sugatsune is now the largest manufacturer of furniture hardware in Japan and is expanding in the US and European markets.
