WISE Awards Nominations are now open
We are delighted to announce that the nominations for the 2014 WISE Awards are now open! We are looking for women and girls to inspire others to follow in their footsteps as well as male and female champions and organisations making a difference. This year there are 10 categories and new categories for 2014 include Hero, Recruiter and Employer. WISE is delighted to welcome Bloomberg, the global leader in business and financial information, news and analysis, as the awards headline sponsor. Sponsorship is still available for only one remaining category. There are also silver and bronze sponsorship opportunities available.

The Range Rover Evoque WISE Scholarship

Applications are now open for the Range Rover Evoque WISE Scholarship 2014. This is the second year of an exciting collaboration between Jaguar Land Rover and WISE offering sponsorship to young women who want to make a difference. Please spread the word!

RAF Experience Week for Year 10 girls
Apply now for this fully residential work experience week is for Year 10 girls at RAF Leeming and 90 Signals Unit, near Northallerton in North Yorkshire, from 18 – 21 August 2014.

Entrepreneurial women in the Renewable Sector
This event on the 26 June in Bristol will celebrate the contribution of entrepreneurial women to the growth of renewable energy and discuss how renewables can be a trailblazing industry in using the skills and talents of women (open to all genders!)
. WISE board member Dr Nina Skorupska will be speaking at the event on how the sector needs to engage women to succeed. Find out more

EDT’s Engineering Education Scheme celebrates 30 years,  having created over 30,000 engineering experiences for young people across the UK.

Launch of Equate Scotland
The Scottish Resource Centre for women in STEM has now re-launched as Equate Scotland. The change was announced by the First Minister at a Celebration of Women in Science, Engineering and Technology in Edinburgh

This project is part of the Stimulating Physics Network, an IOP project funded by the Department for Education to develop the teaching and learning of physics in secondary schools. Surveys commissioned by Baker Dearing Educational Trust
'Girls at mainstream schools think boys have a much better chance of getting jobs in engineering with just 43% saying they have the same opportunities in the industry. As a result, just 3% would consider a career in engineering.' The findings are part of two surveys of 14-18 year old students at university technical colleges and other mainstream schools.

Engineering survey reveals scale of UK gender pay gap
The Institution of Chemical Engineers’ (IChemE) biennial salary survey of workers in sectors including oil, gas, food and drink, energy and pharmaceuticals has revealed the scale of the gender pay gap with women typically earning 25 per cent less by the age of forty.
