We are delighted to announce the Award categories for the WISE Awards 2016. This year we will have ten Awards to showcase remarkable women and men whose stories are are changing the face of science, technology and engineering in the UK. Nominations will be opening soon. In the meantime have a look at the categories and start thinking of people to nominate! 

It is our pleasure to announce that Penny Bradley will be joining WISE as the membership director from 4 April. Penny joins us with a strong commercial background, creating, nurturing and supporting internal and external relationships at Cisco, where she also gained extensive experience helping girls and women in accessing the workplace and developing their careers. “I’m very excited to be joining WISE to support them and continue to build on their excellent achievements over the past few years and I’m looking forward to contributing to their future success working with new and existing members.” Penny will be job-sharing with Suzy Firkin our current Development Director. We will therefore be recruiting a new Development Director to join the team. Look out for details on our jobs page in the next few days!

Industry led Ten Steps - Call to Action for signatories - 8 March
The official Ten Steps certificates are on their way to all of our existing signatory companies. On International Women’s Day why not mark the day; get your named signatory to complete the certificate, display in a prominent place and tweet us your photos using #10steps? We’ll retweet them and hope it will inspire others to get involved in this influential programme. If your company is not already a signatory what better day to sign up than International Women’s Day. Launch of the NHS England Chief Scientific Officer’s WISE Fellowship
Applications open 8 March
At NHS England they are serious about developing their talented female healthcare scientists! The Fellowship provides a unique opportunity for mid-career female healthcare scientists to gain invaluable leadership experience through a career development programme which offers personal and professional development opportunities including mentoring and coaching.
Scholarships and fellowships can be used to great effect to help attract, retain and develop women at all stages of their careers. If you would like to discuss setting up such a scheme in your organisation contact Suzy  or attend our knowledge sharing event on 27th April.

World Book Day - Pick Your Poison
In celebration of World Book Day, WISE reviewed the new book by Lauren Child; latest in the Ruby Redfort series entitled Ruby Redfort: Pick your Poison. Ruby is a thirteen year old smart, independent girl with a great interest in science, particularly related to puzzles and poisons! The story is based in the USA and at over 500 pages is quite a lengthy read and would appeal most to those who like mystery novels, although it might be best to read the others in the series first to put it all into context.
