BY GOSH, IT'S ALMOST PITCH TIME...

The Race Committee is looking for volunteers to help with the PITCH Regatta, which will be held September 1st and 2nd this year.

Experience is not necessary - we will teach you what you need to know. Experienced help would also be very welcome.

PITCH is an exciting weekend on the water and in the clubhouse. Come join the fun! If you are interested or have questions please call me or send an email. Michele Bodtke, PITCH Race Committee Coordinator, 360-720-4155, msbodtke@gmail.com

HERE'S SOME FUN FOR YOU THAT MEANS A LOT TO THE CLUB!

Carol Young tells us that the Club is scheduling another bartending class.  Do you know that scores of BYC-ers have got their "Mixologist's Permit" from the state of WA, and they have fun serving --- and getting to know --- our wonderful Members.  You can serve as often or as rarely as you wish, and the class is cheap!  Just think, if times get even tougher, you'll be qualified to work in a tavern, too!

Of course, the real payoff is for the Club!  Our bartenders earn up to well over TEN GRAND a year for the Club, money that otherwise would have to come from dues or sending out Members to transport illegal drug cargos...

Why not sign up to make a difference and keep our Members out of jail?  Anyone interested in the class or needing to renew their licence please contact Joe or Carol Young at steelbluekiss@gmail.com. Dates to be determined.

SUMMER DINING AT ITS MOST SOCIABLE AND CASUAL...

We will be open on Wednesdays for the $6 Burger and Brew through August. Sit on the deck and leave the cooking to us. No brew? A great hamburger and chips for just $2.50. Lounge opens at 5pm, burgers hot off the grill by 6.

[Your editor was at the Club one evening last week, and how delightful our deck is on an nice evening whewn the doors are open.  Balmy breezes, friends chatty on the deck, and bargain-bar pricing that's half of what most places charge, especially those facilities that are comparable in furnishings.  All that and great friends, too...what more could you want?]  --- Carol Young

BUCCANEER CRUISE REMINDER:  8/17-19

Here’s the poster.  On Friday the 17th at Inati Bay, dinner is on your own, with an evening of sing-along around the campfire with Joe Young and a movie on a sail.

Saturday, get into your pirate & wench or buccaneer costumes, join the children's treasure hunt, the adults’ treasure hunt and the costume contest with five categories to be judged with prizes.  Then there’s the Buccaneer Dinner with steak, grilled fish, and salads (bring a side or dessert to share).  Finally, the live band features "Seatown Rhythm and Blues Players”, s’mores around the campfire, and a couple of kegs.

Sunday, a pancake, sausage & egg breakfast provided for all those who help with clean up and breakdown of Buccaneer Cruise equipment and supplies.  Then, when you feel like it, back home.

No boat? Free transport to Inati on the 18th at 10 a.m. returning at 7 p.m.  For a ride, sign up at the bar; bring your own Life Jacket if possible!

TOUGH TIMES FOR TWO PAST COMMODORES…

Chuck McCord and Max King are having difficult times.  Chuck is dealing with a brain disorder that is frustrating him (and his surgeons somewhat) and Max is recovering from a modest, though still somewhat disabling stroke.  Both men, of course, have the prayers and affection of all of us in the BYC as they work toward recovery.  Please keep them in your thoughts, along with Roberta and Elle.  And if you can give us more info that we can pass on to our Members, please email jibsheet@byc.org; our regular and wonderful, caring sources, Matt & Brenda Dennis, are unavailable for a few weeks.

Thanks...and nothing but the best to you both, Chuck and Max! --- Joe Coons

SUMMER SOLSTICE 3rd SAIL IS THIS FRIDAY!

The next Summer Solstice Series Sail #3 is on Friday July 27th.  The theme is “Flight” (In reference to the movie “Top Gun”, however, “Butterfly Wings” work as well.)  --- Jonathan Knowles

HOST FAMILIES NEEDED FOR BELLINGHAM YOUTH REGATTA!

The Bellingham Youth Regatta (formally Jr Ski-to-Sea Regatta)  on August 11-12 is looking for host families willing to provide housing for youth sailors and their parent(s).

Please contact Jonathan Knowles, BYC Fleet Captain at FleetCaptain@byc.org or 360-303-5465 for more details.

THIS WEEK’S PHOTO QUIZ FROM STEVE ROSS:

Jim Gibson correctly identified last week's photo of the Puente de la Mujer (Women's Bridge) in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Thanks to John Van Haalen for the striking photograph. You can read more about the bridge here: http://www.galinsky.com/buildings/mujer/index.htm.

This week we feature an older edifice. The first leader of this community is the namesake of a well-known BYC member. If you know where the photograph was taken, and the name of the current member, please send your answer to steve.ross@wwu.edu

Remember to submit your articles to  Jibsheet@byc.org  Deadline is each Monday noon.
