You'll find our current roster, photos, board meeting minutes, event calendars, facilities booking info, volunteer forms, and much more. There is even an easy way to update your roster information online! Since this is for current members only you will need to register to use the website. HELP PLAN OUR HALLOWE'EN PARTY...

There will be a Halloween Party planning meeting, Wednesday October 19th, 6pm in the Commodore's Room. Anyone interested in helping plan this annual fun event is encouraged to show up, share your ideas, and volunteer!  If you can't attend the meeting this Wednesday, but are interested in helping with the Halloween party (scheduled for Saturday the 29th) please email programs@byc.org and either Sally Poorman or Angie Santosuosso will get in touch. If you can come, please do - the more input and involvement we have, the better the party will be!

PHOTO OF THE WEEK:

The best guess from last week came from Jamie Foti – who also identified six of the nine people on the boat. Jamie thought it might be the Rogue River. The rafters were Steve, Meredith, Kelly, Shannon and husbands Derek and Jace. The river is the Deschutes (French for “rapids”).

This week’s picture is a boat more modern than the Viking long boat of a few months ago. Take a close look, and notice how small the people working on it are. It would make a heck of an Opening Day review ship!

A NEW SMALLER POWERBOAT BOAT LINE COMES TO BELLINGHAM...

I stopped over at our long-time Club advertising sponsor, Bellingham Yacht Sales, on Thursday to look at their new line of Cutwater 26’ and 28’ Boats. These are new to the market, and the subject of an article this month in Pacific Yachting, and I respect the quality judgments of Dean and Nick Ouilette, long-time BYS owners [disclaimer: I worked for them from 1992-1996].  Both from Maine, they know Downeast boats, and only the Sabre and Back Cove boats (both from Sabre) have been allowed on their new-boat sales docks for two decades, other than a brief romance with Mainship years ago.

Up until now, I’ve recommended the Camano 31 (really a 28) as the best of the few Diesel-powered, serious smaller cruisers, but I must say I was mighty impressed with these Cutwater boats which could well surpass the Camano simply due newer-generation features!  They obviously were built by a team that had done lots of research into what boaters want in a vessel, and they pack lots of excellent design touches into these Yanmar-powered cruisers that share an 8’-6” beam (making them trailerable) and only 28” of draft.  If you could be interested in acquiring a well-built, quality power boat in this size range, you’ll want to see them at the BYS office at 1801 Roeder in front of the Bayside Cafe.  As for me, I’m looking forward to having a sea trial aboard one.  Here’s a link (video at the bottom of the page).

If you're one of our sponsors and have news about your enterpriuse, let us know at Jibsheet@byc.org!  ---Joe Coons
