MEMBER NEWS
It all started with a phone call about 4 days before - "What are you doing New Year's Eve? I don't feel like dusting my house, so let's take dinner, eat at the club, keep the bartender company." Then there was an email to spread the word to a few other friends. Next "You should put something in the JibSheet" which someone followed up with a glitzy flyer announcing BYC's New Year's Eve Party!
Consequently some 60 members and guests descended upon the club on Wednesday night to share some food and beverage and conversation. To me this was the Club at its best, a simple gathering highlighting the friendships and camaraderie we have come to enjoy so much. It was a great mix of people, members old and new, some "regulars" and some who hadn't been to the club for quite some time. We even had a couple of brand new applicants come by as our guests.
So Happy New Year again to one and all! And next time you'd like to get together with friends, you don't feel like cleaning house, and a restaurant just won't cut it, think of making use of the club. You never know what might develop!  --Marian Welsh

Special thanks to Jeff Vernon and Gary Smith for the work they did replacing the floor and giving the cooler a fresh coat of paint.  Great job!!

COMMODORE'S COLUMN
Happy 2015 !!!
This year has all the components for a great boating season ahead.  The U.S. Economy and stock market are looking strong, wages are predicted to rise and recent gas price drops have put a few extra bucks in our pockets.  The US Energy Information Administration (eia.gov) predicts gas prices to hold steady through summer 2015 at around $2.50 gallon that will make getting out on the water just a little more affordable.
And, at the BYC, we have a full steam ahead!  The Cruising fleet has a packed schedule starting in March and includes a multi-week Desolation Cruise in September.  The BYC Youth Sailing program has big projected growth in Learn-to-Sail and Youth Racing, and finally the Sailing Fleet is making big plans for FUN sailing to get more members out for our Club Racing.
How can you make this year even better?    Well… we need  more members like you!   … Power Boaters, Sailors, Racers and Youth Families.  With more members we can achieve the financial freedom to keep our dues low while offering  a “full Service” clubhouse, reciprocal guest dock, sailing programs, boating education, and  the BYC outstation at Inati Bay.   If you have a boater friend or acquaintance, invite them as a guest and show them around our amazing facility. Please contact Membership Chair, Tim Thompson bycmemberchair@gmail.com or myself for any assistance with getting new members.
Are you getting ready for Boating Season???  It will be here faster than you think!
Cheers... Jonathan Knowles
THIS WEEK'S PHOTO CONTEST:
Last week's picture was taken near the south entrance to Swinomish Slough. Jack Gerrity correctly identified the location, while Jamie Foti and Anne Schoenecker guessed nearby places.
This week's picture shows a small retail center. If you know the location, send your answer to drsteveross@gmail.com.
